save the date cards

We are planning a Memorial Day weekend 2012 wedding. Are save the date cards necessary? I want as many people to attend as possible and I am nervous about the holiday weekend. Do you think it's a good idea for save the date cards or are they a waste?

    I would recommend sending out save the date cards especially since its a holiday weekend. Many people make plans further in advance for holidays and the sooner people know when your wedding is the better. You can get affordable save the dates from various websites like vistaprint, snapfish, etc.

    I agree that for a holiday weekend Save the Date's are a good idea. People tend to make plans in advance. Also, if you have OOT guests they might want to book a hotel or flight earlier as well since traveling on a holiday weekend can be more expensive.

    Try vistaprint and get the free postcards if budget is your concern.

    I agree with the previous posts.  My brother and SIL got married the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and it definitely helped sending them out.  It's best to do it, so you don't look back months from now and regret it.

    We were married over fourth of July weekend. I would definitely recommend STDs and they don't need to be elaborate or anything. Also, we didn't send them to everyone; only closest friends and family.

    Thanks for all the help girls.  I will definitely send them out.  I think vista print has free postcards and you just pay for shipping, so that may work.
