Reception Music Question

I'm curious about how people are handling their music for the reception! How detailed are you going to be with your band/dj about your reception music? Besides telling them the specific songs you want for the first dance, WP entrance, cake cutting, M/S, F/D dances, etc. are you telling them exactly what songs you want played or are you just doing a do not play list?

    We're actually not giving our band that much guidance. I trust them - they're the professionals - and they'll be able to gauge the audience and see what's working and what isn't. I will tell them to stick to stuff that would be ok for "old people" at the beginning and then transition into newer/pop stuff as the night goes on. I want them to do what they think works, though, so I'm trying not to micromanage them. They did ask for a do not play list, but since it's a band, not DJ, there really won't be any "chicken dance" or other issues that we realy need to deal with. :)

    We're telling our Dj which songs we want for first dance, m/s and f/d dances, besides that we're just giving her a do not play list of songs we absolutely don't want to hear.

    we gave about 10 artists that we didn't want to be played...other than that, we're letting him do his thing!

    I have a huge range of people from 90's to my flower girl who is 4. So I put together all the music that is dancing type and hits as many genres as possible. I have about 6 hours worth of music listed for a guide. But my dj is the very best and will work his magic.

    So far only one song is on my Do Not Play - The Chicken Dance. Gods how I hate that song. And my family loves it and wants it. It sends shivers down my spine.
