The Munching Hour

I've only been seriously following my healthy eating plan for a month or so, but I just had a great (but kinda weird) "This is really working!" moment. It was during what I call The Munching Hour... that danger zone a few hours after dinner and before bed when I find myself mindlessly munchie and reaching for the ice cream. Tonight, when it struck, I made STEAMED VEGETABLES. Tossed them with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil and salt, and they were gooood. Vegetables for dessert! YESSSSSS!

Re: The Munching Hour

  • I started buying those microwave friendly steamable veggies with sauce in the bag to snack on when I'm hungry. I've also stopped buying really 'bad for you' snacks. Instead I get stuff that needs preperation or something that isn't so bad, like low fat pudding cups and yogurt with granola. When I'm wanting something sweet, I'll mope for a little bit after nothing super-nummy appears in my fridge, but then I'll have a bowl of Rice Krispies and call it a night! :)
  • Vegetables are KEY...Nutritionally dense, but not calorie dense.

They will fill you up with minimal calories,  Good for you!!

  • Love it! It's so funny, because when I'm craving chips, I'll get celery sticks and carrots and then make dip from onion soup mix and fat free sour cream and I'll get the crunchy and the salty (not great for right before bed with all the onions lol). Also raw green and red peppers in that dip are amazing.

I agree with PP about the microwaveable veggies in the bags. Sometimes if I'm really hungry I'll pop them in the microwave because it's so easy and they are really tasty. And the pudding!!! I get the fat free/sugar free variety and make it with fat free milk (I don't know how you feel about sugar free, but I am OK with it). It's super low in calories, it's sweet, and it is kind of filling. Also I make it from a mix, so it's 2 minutes of hand whisking, and that is quite a nice additional workout :-) Now my fiance always asks if we're having pudding, because he loves it too! So funny because I saw something on the news the other day about pudding becoming trendy, and I had to tell my fiance that we were trendsetters.
