I finished OotP last night. I still can't say it's my favorite but it's probably even with GoF. I didn't mind angry Harry nearly as much as before. I'm glad I gave it another chance. So I have to say it you were right, I was wrong OotP is full of HP goodness! Plus there was a ton of stuff in there that I forgot!

Yay! I'm glad it improved in your ranking system and that Harry didn't bug you as much this time. Really, you only have to deal with angry Harry for a few chapters, right? Once he starts channeling his energy into the DA and stuff, he's great.

Yeah, that book has so many of my favorite HP moments:
-Weasley's Wizard Wheezes all over the castle
-Peeves unscrewing a chandelier with McGonagall's help
-The article in the Quibbler and all the reactions to it
-The DA, obvs
-Luna!
-Harry's career advice with McGonagall and Umbridge
-Fred and George's departure

and so many more. It's impossible not to love.

All awesome scenes! I think in my mind I had shifted some of those events into the sixth book and Harry does get a lot less angry toward the middle.

I do love Luna. Although I couldn't help noticing that they made everyone a bit nicer to her in the movie than they really were in the books.

Fred and George's departure has to be in the top 10 of my favorite HP moments. I also love the part with Neville's parents. It's so sad but I think it gives a lot more insight into Neville's character.

I love Neville so much in Book 5 and beyond. He really develops, and learning his back story is a crucial part of that.

I like how he starts kind of coming alive during the DA meetings, but the instant he sees Bellatrix in the Department of Mysteries, it's like a switch gets flipped and it's GAME ON. Ahh, Neville.

I love Neville too. One of the best things about 5, 6, and 7 is the development of the side characters - particularly Neville and Draco.

My kidlet has seen all the movies and read 3 of the books she is 9.

Well, if you do decide to read the books, then feel free to chime in when we discuss them. Until then, don't you think it's a little lame to come in on a conversation about Harry Potter just to say you haven't read it?

What would you think of it if I came in on your Humphrey thread just to say "I don't really like cats and I don't have any pets"? I mean, I would be lying, becuase I have four pets and I love cats, but it would still be an unnecessary "contribution" to the conversation.

I agree 100%! It's one of my biggest disappointments with the movie :( Peeves was so awesome. What's weird is they included him in the video games...

I wish they had done what they did with LOTR with HP and made extended editions with a lot of the stuff that was left out.

Sorry if I offended you Elle. I didnt say anything negative about the books. I just have not read them. My daughter likes them though so its something that is on my radar as a possible to read. A lot of other people really seem to like them too. I'm always open to new things to read. It wasnt meant to be offensive.

Me too. There's a scene in Azkaban where he puts gum in a keyhole and Lupin shoots it out at him with "waddiwasi." One of my favorite scenes in the book but it never made it to the movie.

I've never had the chance to bring up my love of HP on this board, I think, but I simply can't stay away from this thread given that such a wonderful topic was laid out before me!

I'm actually on a bit of a HP overload right now; I help mod a HP site, I'm hosting a HP Halloween party, and I just found out Leaky Con 2013 is only a few hours away from where I live! Woo

Anyway, back to the books & movies - I'm so sad that I had much more time to read them in High School, but when I started to read the series over again in college, I just couldn't manage. I'd either have other homework or I'd lay in bed and make it only a few pages before conking out (during the academic year it takes me no more than 8 minutes to fall asleep, haha)

I like that Beth started the thread with OoTP because I feel like it's usually brushed over and, while the movie left out some of the better parts of the book, I thought it was a really good representation of the text overall (though I may change my tune when I go back through it again haha).

Anyway, just wanted to chime in on a thread I can really contribute to!

I'm going to need to know which HP site you mod on. I'm also insanely jealous that LeakyCon is coming to your city. I want to go to LeakyCon so bad, but it never seem to work out. Maybe I'll make it Portland next summer. Can I stay with you?

I help mod hogwarts.darkmark.com, it's a forum-based Role Play website - You play a student through 7 years at Hogwarts. Ours specifically is set in the 1790s just to avoid people wanting to play cannon characters, plus it adds a little extra something for people to figure out era-appropriate aspects of their characters.

Unless I can stay with friends, I'll be put up in a hotel because I'll be living in the Medford area, which is 4 hours south. But it'll likely just be me and my SO, so you're more than welcome to share a room with us - I currently work at a hotel and can get a discount if I'm still working there next summer. Woo!

And I'll certainly have to search out some other HP threads.
