Videographer?

Did most of you guys have a videographer?  I was looking through the stickies and I've only seen a few people with them listed.

How do you feel about them?  I was totally against them, but then people were like, those are you ONLY memories if you pictures come out crappy!!  So now I'm freaking out.  They're just so expensive, and I hate seeing myself on video in the first place....but then I'm worried that I might regret not spending the money.

Did you use one?  Who and how much were they?  Would you recommend it?

Re: Videographer?

  • I'm totally considering using wedit.com atm - $199 for 5 HD cameras is their deal right now. They won't edit anything and you'll just get raw footage, but you can always pay someone way later when you have more money to edit things together (or mess around with it yourself, which is what I plan to do)

You could also only have a videographer for the ceremony. We might do that, still up in the air about it.

  • We are having a videographer, but like you I was against it at first.

I don't think you should use the "what if our photos come out crappy" reasoning to hire a videographer. If you choose a good PHOTOGRAPHER and due your diligence in that respect, then it shouldn't be a concern.

If you have money in your budget, I think the video is a nice thing. Photos are certainly around for life, but it's nice to have live footage, perhaps of the vows and toasts at least.

If you don't have room in your budget, I don't think it's a "must have". You could have a friend hold a video camera to capture the ceremony and it'd be just fine too. Or not have anything.

  • We booked one.  I never thought much about it, but it was the one aspect of the wedding that my fiance REALLY wanted.  We booked Mike Staff to do it, and it's costing us about $2000 for 8 hours of coverage.  It is expensive, but I havent regretted that decision even once.

  • I honestly think it was worth it.  Your best bet if you are on the line is to find a videographer who is just starting out because they are always cheaper.  I used Paul Briles and LOVE his work.  His 2012 prices are $1200.  I'm sure if your wedding is next year and you book with him now, he will honor that price.  That is what we did about a year before our wedding.

    GL to you!

  • We're using 3rd Street Films...Jamie Honce is incredible and the Same Day Edit package was pretty reasonable.

    Good luck :)
