Teeth Whitening Timing?

I bought a 20-day treatment of Crest White Strips, and I'm wondering when I should start them. Is there any logical reason why I should start them any earlier than 20 days before the wedding? Like... is there a chance they won't work and I should have some time padded in to run to the dentist to get it done professional, or could they even come out too white (if there is such a thing) and I would need some time to let them fade a little?

I've never done these before, so I have no clue. Everything I've read seems really positive about them, but if anyone has personal experience I'd love to hear it! I do realize I'm over thinking this haha.

Re: Teeth Whitening Timing?

  • I would start them maybe 30 days before the wedding? The whitening lasts 6 months. I used to love using the whitestrips but my front tooth chipped and I have it capped now, so the strips won't work on that tooth :(  I may still attempt to try it though... my dentist said she could replace the cap with a brighter one, but I don't know how much it will cost and I don't think it's covered by insurance.

  • I would start it now. They sometimes make teeth really senstive. I used it maybe 6 years ago and I couldn't even finish the pack. My teeth were soooo senstive so I started to just use it like once a week.

So I say start it now and if it gets senstive, you can have time to recover for the wedding.

  • I'd start now if I were you. They may make your teeth senesitive and you may want to space it out a bit more rather than using it for 20 consecutive days. My whitening strips make my teeth extremely sensitive so I'm using them only once a week. There is no way I want to use them the day before my wedding because I don't want to be uncomfortable. I'd begin so you can see how you'll feel/how well they work.

  • this is a good question!!

I just bought Twilight Teeth....I feel so dumb having it hahaha but you put it on your teeth when you go tanning. My fiance is convinced every part of my body, even my teeth, are now going to get cancer from tanning.

K8888 I think you said you use Twilight Teeth - how often do you use it??? does it hurt at all?
  • I agree with PPs. I would start it earlier than 20 days because your teeth will likely be sensitive and you won't want to put the strips on every single day. When I used strips, before the trays I got from my dentist, I had to wait about 3 days between strips because they made my teeth SO sensitive.

They make my teeth really sensitive too, from day one on, but I use Sensidyne when I use them and that helps a ton! I'm going to start them probably three weeks before the wedding.

And butterflyjumper: I've used Twilight Teeth before and it was great!! Doesn't hurt your teeth AT ALL.

  • I would start now if I were you. Imo, they work but do not make a dramatic difference. You may want to do them twice.

  • I've used them before and they make my teeth extremely sensitive.  I'm going to do it again for my wedding and I just bought the same thing and was going to start today.  I will alternate upper and lower every day so it isn't too bad, and then it will be 40days long and I'll have room if I miss a couple before the day of.

  • I would start in mid June, since it's a 20 day treatment. I just finished their 14 day treatment and my teeth were only sensitive the last few days. I plan to do another 14 day treatment in the beginning of July but my wedding isn't until July 28.

  • Okay, thanks for the tips. I think I will just start this week, since I don't know how my teeth will react. Supposedly the kind I got is supposed to be for sensitive teeth, so I'm hoping it won't be too bad!

  • My teeth are pretty bad from copious amounts of coffee and red wine.  I've tried the strips with no luck and did a couple of the supposed "professional strength" kits that have been on the deal sites lately, but none of them really did much till the latest one.  I've done 4 treatments so far and my teeth are the whitest they've ever been.  The very top of my teeth by my gums didn't get any whiter at all with anything else, but now my entire tooth it the same color and they're pretty darn close to white.  I'm going to do the last two treatments and then order another kit to do right before the wedding.

They sent an email when I ordered through Eversave that's good for 70% off any kit or 50% off their freshening pens forever with no limits so I'm going to get the pens, too which you're supposed to use after drinking or eating something that stains your teeth.  It isn't the easiest 30 minutes of my day because the mouth tray is huge and I haven't to wiggle the blue light in there, too, but it's totally worth it.  The kit also came with an enamel boosting stuff that you put on for 5 minutes after you whiten them.  Not sure how well it works, but since the other is working so well, no reason not to think it is, too.
