Help! Having an Evening Ceremony - Dress Confusion

We're getting married at 5:30 pm next spring, and I'm having a difficult time deciding on a dress.  So the question is, is there one fabric that is more appropriate for evening weddings versus another?

Thanks ladies!  I appreciate any suggestions.

Whatever makes you happy.  I wore a floor-length champagne colored satin dress and felt great.  Are you leaning more towards a traditional gown, or something a little toned-down?

I have been looking at Casa Blanca Bridal dresses a boutique owner thinks I should buy the 1974, but it's a little plainer than I would like.   I'm leaning toward either 1901, 1975, 1942 or 1941.

This wedding has been 30 years in the making.  My FI and I have known one another since we were 15, were best friends until we were 21 when we lost contact.  The Army decided not to forward or return my mail. Not quite 25 years later we were reunited.  So our wedding is being treated by both famillies as something very special since both sides have waited so long for it to happen.

My concern is for a evening wedding are there fabrics that should be avoided such as lace?  We are getting married in a lovely patio with a gorgeous view.  We could be having up to 4 attendants per side, so not a small bridal party.

Wow.  They're all so pretty.  I like the 1975 - the lace is gorgeous.  I don't think you need to avoid one fabric or another - it would be beautiful for a spring evening wedding.  Happy dress shopping!

    Mikesangie, love your story!

You can wear whatever makes you feel beautiful. I honestly don't think there is any one fabric that is right or wrong for any time of day or season.

    Good luck.

Thank you Les Paul for your input about the dresses that I am leaning toward. I think what makes the decision s difficult for me is that this is the wedding and the man I have always wanted, and of course I want everything to be just so... (don't we all!)  I appreciate that you took the time to look at the styles of the dresses though and gave me some feed back!  Thank you!!

They are ALL gorgeous, but I especially love 1974!   I wish I had seen these before I bought my dress!   Those are beautiful.

I've worked with fabrics and bridal as a seamstress.  There is NO do's or don't anymore.   However I probably wouldn't wear velvet huh?? ;o)  He he he he

    Shell,

Thank you for your input.  Early this morning we got woke up - but I couldn't fall back to sleep because I had wedding dresses on the brain. And now I'm tired, I have too much to do today to nap too!  Oh well hopefully I hear something from the boutique owner about the dresses she's getting in for me to try.

Thank you for sharing the bit about being a seamstress.  I have tried on the 1974, and I went by myself - the boutique owner said it was stunning on me and looked like it was made just for me.  I know that should be enough, but I'm not "in love" with it.

They are all lovely, but I REALLY like the 1901!  It's striking.

As others have said, pretty much all fabrics are fair game at any time of day (or year), now.  Whichever of these gowns you choose will be perfect for your long awaited special day!  Congratulations!

Take any daughters either of you have who are at least 10 years old to the next shopping trip.  One of them may be the next woman to wear the dress you choose.  I really love 1975 for the overall look.  If you like the shoulder detail of the 1901 maybe the seamstress could make some out of the lace when you get it hemmed.  If your 'girls' are to big for the dress, maybe she could add boning too.  GL!!

There is nothing better than the right thing at the right time.

Thank you ladies for your input and wonderful suggestions. I thought I had a boutique that I could work with but that is not the case so I am now changing boutiques but hopefully not designers.

I have tried on the 1974, it fit me perfectly but was the only white dress in the 5 that I tried on.  The boutique owner was attempting to pressure me into purchasing the store sample (without a discount) and going to her seamstress for the minor alterations that it needed. My coloring is such that it popped solely because it was white.  I also told the boutique owner that it was more simple than I had envisioned and that I wanted to think about it.  Long story short she had crossed me off her list as having already purchased my dress and stopped returning my calls.  Hence the change in boutiques.

My future step-daughter (who may want to wear my dress when it is her turn to be a bride) was looking for bridesmaid dresses she found one that matched almost to a tee the 1974 except in color which was a little disheartening.

So that is my dress saga as of today.  The FI's favorite of the pictures on line is the 1901 but no one has it in stock for me to try.

If you want to be in love with your dress, then it may be best to stick with that feeling and don't compromise.  You have to go with your gut.

My fiance and I are  aiming for a certain overall style that flows throughout the wedding -- simple, stunning, classic (perhaps vintage) and classy -- I'm sure I will see a dress that fits the bill.
Oops!  Sorry, I digressed.  Back to you ... Embarassed  I think any color, any style will be fine as long as you get the feeling you want.

    Best of luck!
