When to bustle the dress

When are you bustling your dress? Is there a specific moment its supposed to happen? We are doing photos after the ceremony so I'm not sure if I should bustle it before photos or after. My dress has a beautiful train so I don't want to bustle it too soon but I'm worried about family or bridal party members accidentally stepping on it during photos. I know I want the train down for pics of just FI and I but those will be the last ones taken.

Re: When to bustle the dress

  • I think you normally do it after the pictures....right before your entrance into the reception.

  • I'm doing it while my guests are at cocktail hour.  All of our pictures (well formal pictures that is) will be done by then.  You'll want your dress bustled when you enter the reception because it'll be annoying to dance with a train.

I'm doing mine after we arrive at the reception location, but before we do our entrance.  All of our formal pictures will be done prior to bustling.

I'm sure people will be conscious of your train while they're grouping for formal pictures.  Depending on where you take them, you could warn people on their approach (say something like "dont' trip on my train" and make it seem like you're worried for safety reasons).  Or you could have your photographer warn people as s/he is directing them.  It would definitely be a pain to bustle your dress and then un-bustle it and re-bustle it.
  • We are bustling it before the entrance into the reception...

we are doing first look photos before the ceremony etc so only a few shots after that... we might even bustle it after the reccesional as we are taking a GROUP photo and I don't want people stepping on it
  • I'm doing mine either once we finish family pictures (the only ones we're doing after the ceremony) or just after we get to the reception before our grand entrance.

  • I'm bustling mine after we arrive at the venue for the reception before we go in. I've never seen anyone NOT be conscious of this big white train they could trip on..not to mention someone should arrange it for the photos so that its done around to the side...your photog should know how to handle it if you're worried!

  • I'm going to be bustling my train after photos and before we're introduced at the reception. I think that's pretty common.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!
