Has anyone used a chemical cleaner on their ring?

Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone has used a chemical cleaner on their ring? I have seen them in the store but have been too scared to try them. My ring has pavé stones on it and I am worried about it compromising the integrity of the setting snd the stones becoming loose or falling out. Please let me know if anyone has experience with these types of cleaners or any other cleaning tips. Thanks!

  • I bought the one at Walmart in the red container. It works great. I haven't had any problems.

  • Be very careful with cleaners for your ring, a lot of chemicals can and will compromise the metal (not so much diamonds.)  The BEST thing for at-home-cleaning is hot water and Dawn soap...no kidding.  Dawn soap is really gentle.
  • If I need a quick cleaning in between professional cleanings I just use soap and water and a soft toothbrush.  It works like a charm.  I would be worried about using the chemical cleaners just because the oils on your skin can turn white gold yellow so who knows what a chemical will do.

  • I've also read on here in another group to use Mr. Bubbles bubble bath to clean it.  It's just another form of soap but I guess it really makes your ring sparkle.  I've never tried.  I use the kind in the red container as well, but I don't have pave stones either.  HTH.

Windex (the no ammonia one) is recommended by my jeweler.

  • Get it professionally clean. Use a simple cotton swab to keep your ring shiny. I suggest that you don't use a chemical solution; it might look pretty now but it may adversely affect your ring later.
  • I use Johnson and Johnson's baby soap and water...that works perfectly fine.

I was told that vodka is great on cleaning diamonds. My FMIL uses that to clean her diamonds with a soft brush between professional cleanings. I haven't tried yet, but she swears by it.

  • My jeweler told me dishwashing soap and water is the best cleaner for my ring.
  • I was told to use a mild dish soap and clean with a baby toothbrush as the bristles are very soft and not too abrasive.
  • My jeweler said to use a toothbrush and a mixture of ammonia and water, as some soaps can leave a residue. He said that commercial jewelry cleaning solution is just ammonia, water, and fragrance.
