July 2013 Weddings

Beating the Heat?

I'm excited that my fiance and I have finally settled on a date of July 27. (Yes, we are planning the wedding in a shorter time frame than most, but it is a smaller wedding.) Our venue is a nice local restaurant with a garden patio out back for the ceremony and a tent for the reception. One of my concerns about a July date is obviously the heat in Atlanta. The ceremony area has sun shades, and both areas will have fans and misters for temperature control. Other than starting the ceremony in the evening and offering lots of water, are there any other ideas you have for helping your guests stay comfortable?

I am figuring that plenty of people go to backyard barbeques, fireworks shows, and other outdoor events in the evening in July, so hopefully they won't be miserable??

Re: Beating the Heat?

  • congrats! that is my date!
  • I'm in FL so I definitely know the heat problem! My date is July 12th. I'm doing program fans to help cool guests, we are also going to be on the bay so I am hoping that will have a cool breeze to cool things down.

I'm sure its going to be fine, it looks like you have already thought of great measures to combat the heat :)
  • Water bottles, program fans, starting in the evening and starting on time so guests aren't sitting around waiting and roasting in the sun. Our ceremony will be about 20 minutes so I hope that it won't be too uncomfortable.

  • For those using fans for programs, do you have any sites you would recommend for purchasing them? I've been taking some graphic design classes for grad school, so I'm going to attempt creating our invitations myself. I really like the idea of fans, but I have no idea where I could have them custom printed, so I will probably go with something ready-made.

  • I'm having a friend who is starting an etsy business make mine...but I've seen some good DIY sources on Pinterest for the program fans. I know she is getting all of my items printed at our local copy center and they have turned out great so far.
  • I'm probably just making the paddle fans because you just have to print on card stock and cut it to the shape you want and glue to the big Popsicle stick. I think michaels has a kit for the regular fan that you print directly on.

  • Congratulations!!! We have the same date!!!
