Rice toss, bubbles, etc post ceremony

I'm deciding what to have guests "toss" after the ceremony.  I heard that rice can harm birds if they eat it since it expands in their stomachs.  Bubbles are fun, and I also saw a photo on Pinterest of a lavendar toss.  I love lavendar so I was thinking of doing that.  Anyone have advice about buying inexpensive bags for the toss and/or lavendar?  What are you all doing?

Here is the lavendar I saw on Pinterest- also thought the "yahoo" was cute on the bag:

  • Save-on-crafts has some pretty cheap dried lavender. They also have these cones that have flower seeds in the paper so after the wedding you can plant them. I've also seen people use eco-confetti (which dissolves with water) and dried flower petals.

  • I haven't decided what to do.  Rice can hurt the birdies (in some states it's illegal) so i thought about buying minute rice....since it's pre-cooked, it doesn't expand.  But I need to check on regulations for it.

    Otherwise...we'll probably just do bubbles.

  • Our church doesn't allow rice because it's a waste of food and there are people in the world starving. No joke that's their reason. I wanted a petal toss but don't think it'll work
  • Def check with your venue as well.  Ours doesn't let us use pretty much anything but bubbles.
