Florida-Central Florida

What too me so long....

...to start reading these boards!  They are so helpful!
I currently live in Boston, after 30 years in the Orlando area.

Me and my fiance are getting married in Jamaica on 12/01/10, just the two of us.
Then we are having a reception in Central Florida on 12/11/10.....and then another in Pennsylvania in Spring 2011 (not even going to start planning that one yet).

We are on a low budget, paying for most stuff ourselves, and hoping to start a family soon!!!
Since I live so far away now and we are only having the reception, this has become more difficult...and stressful, than I thought.  I have this constant worry that December will be here and I won't have everything done Tongue out

Our reception is at the City of Oakland Meeting Hall, near Ocoee.  We had some good friends get married there a few years ago, although we were unable to be there (had just moved to Cali).

It will be a casual, afternoon reception with food from Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ (a favorite of mine and my Dad's when we would meet for lunch)...that fits into our style and budget perfectly.

As of right now we are planning on using our iPod for music with a sound system, although part of me would like a DJ, music is a VERY important part of the day!

I have a photographer for the reception, miriphoto.com, who I know through a friend of mine.
We are using Tabitha McCausland and Cinematique Films for the wedding in Jamaica, but Tabitha was not available for our reception date.  I can't wait to see her work!!!

I am still undecided on our cake...aka cupcakes.  It's hard to choose when I can't taste from this far away.

I would love a DOC, but unsure if it's worth the $$, especially since we won't have a rehearsal or ceremony.

My theme snowflakes, and colors of silver, blue. and purple.  Purple because I plan on changing into a cocktail dress and the fiance says that's my best colorKiss

I need linens and chair covers, just started researching that.

Does anyone know of good places to get alcohol in bulk, with possibly a buy-back program.

Well, that's enough rambling on.....any suggestions, help is much appreciated!!
Thanks all!

That's alot of stuff to plan! Its not bulk, but Total Wine has great prices and they will buy back. When they first opened, the liquor representatives that supply the hotel I work for were very upset because Total Wine was selling alcohol for the same or less than what the vendors sell it to hotels and restaurants for! It may be a long shot, but a few cake places may be willing to mail you a box of samples. I know Sweet by Good Golly Miss Holly has awesome cupcakes and I think they ship. Look through the married ladies' vendor reviews for some more suggestions. Good luck!

Cupcake Crazy in Lake Mary is absolutely my favorite place for cupcakes. They have awesome flavors and they can fill the inside of the cupcakes with delicious things.  They also do wedding cakes and are very familiar with the wedding business and catering for weddings.  The owner is very sweet.

Brass Pin LInens gave me the best price hands down.  I had 100 chair covers, satin sashes and 8 table runners including delivery, set up and taxes for only 250$.  That price absolutely can't be beat.  Their website sucks but don't be scared.  They've been in business forever with large hotels and convention centers but only recently started doing weddings so they have a crappy website for the average consumer.  Our linens looked great at our wedding.

Interesting on the Cupcake Crazy, ladies. Some guests brought some for an event at the hotel where I work and shared them with us and I was so not impressed. They were very not uniform in size (probably up to 2oz different) and the icing was super sweet and I couldn't even tell what flavors they were supposed to be. Maybe it was an off day??

Try contacting Amanda's Cakery in Winter Garden, she's doing our wedding cake, but I've used her to make cupcakes for my mothers bday party and they were awesome. She was great about working in my budget and around my allergies.  http://amandascakeryonline.com/

She did a great job decorating each individual cupcake and she only charges me a small delivery and set up fee ( I used one of her cupcake stands). Hope this helps
