Haha, well I guess WE bought a church..FI and I. When I met my FI he had just started a construction comapny, and was living in a house that he'd built. Over the last little while, our like 2 year plan, was that we were going to finish our house, sell it, then buy some property, build him a shop, and put an apartment above it and live there for a little bit. We would be able to do this with a small mortgage, and once we got that mortgage paid off we'd buy a lot and build an actual house. Well this week, my FI was looking at houses with a friend of his, and his friend points out this old church that's for sale... for $80,000.00. FI looks at it and goes... that'd make a great shop! So he talks to me about it.. i'm skeptical, but we go look at it with his dad, and they're all uber exctied. It's ths HUGE brick building that was built in the 50's, the foundation is still good, and it's really a beautiful building. 4500 sq/ft. So, we put an offer it. $75,000, with a July 1st possession date. The guy comes back and counters and says he'll take our $75,000.00 if we move possession to March 1. We accepted, assuming all of the financing works out, we will be the proud new owners of a pretty awesome building march 1st. Now the plan, is going to be to finish our house, put it up for sale hopefully this summer, and that'll pay off our mortgage on it, and give us a decent amount left over to build an AMAZING loft apartment in this church. We'd build the loft, essentially adding a second floor to the church, and then the main floor will be a shop for him. I am actually quite exctied about it, tho nervous.
Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement! The realtor is on her way over with the counter offer for us to sign.
