Children's book vows

Hi All,

I think unique vows are the best and I really want something that comes from a children's book, but not the Owl and the Pussycat. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

    I am having a childrens book read during my ceremony. It is A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton. I love it!

    The Velveteen Rabbit has a few good portions as well as Now We are Six by AA Milne.

    Good Luck!

    Velveteen Rabbit is an amazing book - the closing dialogue between the horse and the rabbit where he tells the rabbit what real love or being real means, is amazing.

    My mother is reading sections from the Giving Tree and I heard selections from sesame street once on how important it is to share, to "play together," and listen to one another - basically a short exerpt about "true friends."

    There are gems everywhere! And I love the idea of using children' books in ceremony readings. They can be simple, sweet, and meaningful in a unique and very special way.

    I agree with both of the PPs. I actually call my FH my Giving Tree because he gives and gives and gives until he can't anymore.

    One of my friends is a 1st grade teacher and she had one of her students read an exerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit (the one about true love).  It was an incredibly beautiful moment :)

    The Little Prince by Saint-Exupéry has a beautiful passage including the line:

    "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

    In English,

    "One sees clearly only with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes."

    There's also a super-cute poem by Ogden Nash called Tin Wedding Whistle - not quite a children's book, but has a childlike, singsong-y quality.  My fiance hates it because he thinks it's codependent.  I remind him that someday, he will learn to take a literary joke :)  Here's the poem:

      Though you know it anyhow
    Listen to me, darling, now,
    Proving what I need not prove
    How I know I love you, love.
    Near and far, near and far,
    I am happy where you are;
    Likewise I have never larnt
    How to be it where you aren't.
    Far and wide, far and wide,
    I can walk with you beside;
    Furthermore, I tell you what,
    I sit and sulk where you are not.
    Visitors remark my frown
    Where you're upstairs and I am down,
    Yes, and I'm afraid I pout
    When I'm indoors and you are out;
    But how contentedly I view
    Any room containing you.
    In fact I care not where you be,
    Just as long as it's with me.
    In all your absences I glimpse
    Fire and flood and trolls and imps.
    Is your train a minute slothful?
    I goad the stationmaster wrothful.
    When with friends to bridge you drive
    I never know if you're alive,
    And when you linger late in shops
    I long to telephone the cops.
    Yet how worth the waiting for,
    To see you coming through the door.
    Somehow, I can be complacent
    Never but with you adjacent.
    Near and far, near and far,
    I am happy where you are;
    Likewise I have never larnt
    How to be it where you aren't.
    Then grudge me not my fond endeavor,
    To hold you in my sight forever;
    Let none, not even you, disparage
    Such a valid reason for a marriage.
