iPhone (VZW)

So I currently have the HTC Thunderbolt (Android) which I got last year but only singed a 1-year contract (it was $30 more than a 2-year contract, a no-brainer really).

Well I just looked & I'm eligible for an upgrade in a couple weeks & I'm considering getting an iPhone.  I like my Android for the most part but I really do love Apple products a lot.  I have an iPad & a Macbook Pro so I guess it kind of just makes sense to go completely to the dark side haha.

I think a lot of you have the iPhone so I'm wondering if you have any advice/opinions.

I'm not sure which size to get.  My iPad is 32gb (well 28gb really) & I only have 8gb of space left on it after putting my music on & I have a season of Dexter plus 75 apps. I don't think I'll have any movies/TV shows on my phone though but I'm kind of leaning towards the 32gb iPhone anyways because I think I'd rather have too much space than not enough, right?

Also, do any of you know insurance works for the iPhone? I have insurance now -- always have actually -- and if anything happens to my phone it's $100 for a replacement. Is the iPhone the same?  I'm specifically asking for Verizon that is.

And iif you think I'm nuts for switching from Android to iPhone please tell me why!

Edited for clarity.

Re: iPhone (VZW)

  • I have no idea about insurance.  But my sister said once (she might be wrong) that you have to send the iPhone to Apple for repairs, not VZW.  So I'm not sure if that's true, but maybe someone can elaborate.

My iPhone is SUPPOSED to come in the mail today.  We'll see.  I just got the 16 GB, but I only have 4 GB of music, so I don't see this being a problem.  When I ordered mine right before Christmas, the 32 GB and 64 GB iPhones were backordered until infinity supposeably (the lady I ordered it from was majorly high, so I don't know if I believe her at all.)

I'm not that helpful, but my iPhone is SUPPOSED to come today.  So I'm kinda excited, but at the same time I'm like "it probably won't come" because we've had a crapton of shipping issues with this thing.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • I have an iPhone on VZW and I love it. I have the iPhone 4 though, not the newest one. I'm also an apple person. I want to say I only have the 16 GB and I'm about half way through my memory just on apps, music and pictures. Honestly I'm not really sure why I even sync my music since I mostly use Pandora or iHeart Radio or some other internet music as opposed to buying it.

If you're worried that you'll blow through the memory than get the 32 GB. You can't add more memory later, so I think this might be the case of better to have more than enough than not enough? Do you take your iPad everywhere?

  • Oh and regarding the insurance, I still have insurance through the VZW. It's a little different than your regular insurance, but I honestly can't remember why. I'll go in to my account and look it up.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I have an ipad2, macbook pro and so I got an iphone4s as well.  I have had blackberrys, also had the thunderbolt and a iphone 3S and have always loved my apple products.  So I'm in favor of you getting an Iphone as well.  The only drawback I have is that on VZW you can't talk and surf the net at the same time.  I needed that when talking to someone and needed to give directions or addresses to restaurants.

BUT I love my my Iphone, Ipad and macbook can sync together via wi-fi using Icloud.  I don't have to plug my phone in to transfer pictures, apps that I bought or music I bought via Itunes.  The phone updates the software via wifi as well.  The only I need to plug my phone into the macbook is when I am uploading music from that laptop that I had transferred from CDs.  As for size I just have the 16 gig.  My phone contains only pictures and music.  My iPad is for the videos and what not.

As for insurance I am not sure how that works as I haven't insured my phone.  I remember one time when my 3GS fell in the pool that I took it to the apple store and i had to pay $200 for a new one.
  • iPhone. Just get the iPhone. And then rub salt in my wound of miserable Droid ownership while a perfectly good iPhone sits in my apartment, crying to be used.

(I turned my iPhone on last night, and guess what... the earpiece works again. FML.)

  • I adore my iPhone, and I love that I can take it to a Genius Bar whenever I have issues (though I've had only one problem in the year that I've had my iPhone...). Tyler's been having problems with his Android but says that the people at the Verizon store don't know anything about the phone, so he's had to troubleshoot on his own, which has taken two weeks of no phone and purchasing of multiple things on the Internet to guess at what's wrong. It's a mess.

  • Ollie: Yes, I take it everywhere.  And to be honest I don't listen to my music that often. I'm not an obsessed with music kinda gal I guess. But what I was thinking is I could leave my music on my ipad and just stick with the 16gb iphone?  Gahhhh I don't know!!!

It's such a hard decision as silly as that sounds.

  • I had a Android phone when it first came out and while it's nice, I like the iPhone much better.  Go for it!

  • I love mine! I got the 32Gb because my ipod is almost full, and it holds 16Gb. As far as warranty policy, VZW does have one, and it's $9 a month. Worth it, IMO. Do it!

  • I have a 16GB model. I don't put videos on my iPhone, so it's not a problem. My music collection is a little over 8GB.

For insurance, I've never done it. Heck, my iPhone 3GS that I dropped in the sink came back to life after a few weeks. I'm going to switch back to it once I have time to transfer things over.

See what Verizon covers versus a third party, like Square Trade. I know that Square Trade is $99 for two years, including drops & spills. Most people who've killed their iPhones (that I know of) either dropped it or got it wet.
