I would say something along the lines that you are just looking for a new challenge, and they are offering that along with better pay!  Just don't forget to thank your current boss for the "opportunity to work" for them!!!  It always lessens the blow and leave a good vibe!  Good Luck and Congrats!!!

Oh wow...what a great blessing! I would let them know in a nice way, but letting them know what your FI said...it would seem to work.

Just let them know that an opportunity has made itself available for you to grow in the company...

    I hope everything works out!

I've got the exact same thing going for me at my job right now. More money for basically the same responsibilities (plus a bit more, of course) in a different department - I actually interview for the new position tomorrow. I was up front and honest with my boss (I'm lucky we have a really good relationship) and he told me how much he didn't want to lose me but he understood that I need to pursue better opportunities. I told him that I'd love to stay if he could pay me what the new position can but I know fiscally that's just not possible. Hopefully your boss is cool like mine and will support you as you try to provide better for yourself :)
    That's Mrs.skWhitneyAmanda to you!
