I showed some people my dress before the wedding but the pictures weren't that great because of the the lighting and even if they have seen your dress before hand they haven't seen you fully made up which makes a big difference in my eyes for overall effect.
ditto PP - it's really up to you. My mom was with me when I picked it out and several of my BMs, my g-ma and my aunt came when I picked it up (we were also BM dress shopping). I showed a picture to my MIL b/c she asked. I think those are the only ones who saw it. H was adamant he not see it, as was my dad. They both wanted to be surprised.
I showed FI's mom and sisters the pictures of me at the salon, but it's just me n the dress with clips and stuff...they'll sitill be surprised on the day when it fits and my hair is done and such. I also showed BFF one night when she was over, but I didn't put it on or anything, just unzipped the bag.
Other than those that were with me at the shop, I don't plan on showing anyone pictures of me in the dress, however I have shared pictures of the dress itself from the designer's website. That was my compromise because I didn't really want to show everyone how I will look but they wouldn't stop bugging me until I did show them. (mostly my coworkers) :-)
Another vote for whoever you want. Half my WP, both of our moms, and a few other friends saw a picture of me in the dress before the wedding. I didn't care who saw it. IMO seeing someone's dress in advance, especially in a picture, doesn't take away from the experience of seeing them on the wedding day.
My mom, BMs and younger sister were there when I picked out my dress; BMs, niece and nephew were there when I picked it up and tried it on again. My dad has seen the dress. I've had others ask, but I'm making them wait.
I agree with PP's - this is a personal choice.

I've shown a few people - I don't usually have a picture handy though. I actually asked FI if he wanted to come dress shopping with me since he was the only one with me when we made the road trip to the nearest city. He declined though and has been adamant about not seeing the dress before our wedding day.
If people asked, I showed them. The only people I didn't want to see my dress ahead of time were my dads and DH (his choice). My mom, sister, MIL and aunt were with me when I picked the dress and I had taken a bunch of pictures in the sample since the dress and I were going to spend several months in different (geographic) states. We had people who couldn't make the trip and I had no problem if they wanted to the picture of me in the sample.
my mom and sister were with me when I bought the dress. Another BM was there when I picked it up. It sat in my sister's house in the states for 3 months before the wedding and I was living in the islands. I forgot to take a pictures with my phone and my dress. Not only that my dress was from a little known designer in the states and there wasn't any magazine pictures I could show.
So basically, I would not have mind to show people. I just didn't have the resources to show them. LOL
Point is, it's up to you.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
Up to you. I'm keeping it very limited. My immediate family, my FI's mom and grandmother, and my aunt and cousin have seen it simply because they were there when I found it. Everyone else who's asked, I just say that I want everyone to be surprised. My BMs were a little sad, I think, but I told them that I want that moment of them being all happy and excited about it too. No one really minded that much.
A lot of my family and FI's family have seen a picture of it, as well as my bridesmaids and a few close friends. I thought about not showing anyone but my bridesmaids and mom, but oh well. FI hasn't seen it, that's what matters the most to me :-)

I've showed anyone who wants to see, including my fiance. I even tried it on for him. I guess I'm not much of a traditional bride. But it's all about what your comfortable with.
I''ve shown anyone who asks as well. Fi has seen it on me, most have just seen the actual dress or a photo. I'm not into surprises, so I dodn't care who sees it. Bu if you care, then only show who you want. This is one thing that is COMPLETELY up to you!
My mom and sister were with me at the bridal shop when I found my dress, I showed the pictures of me in the sample to my BM who could not make it to the shop, one of my girlfriends who is also planning her wedding, future MIL and SIL, Dad and my two Aunts. I am not showing to my FI or any of my other friends becasue I want them to be surprised!
I should add, my H saw it when I first picked it up from my mom, but after that he didn't want to see it again.
There was lots of friends that didn't see it until day of and a lot of the extended family that knew that I was wearing it were excited to see me in it, though they didn't see it on me until day of.
I think I might of shown my sister pics during the alterations process, but that's about it.
I agree with all PPs it's really up to you how few or how many you show it to.
I have never beileved in the rule about your FI not seeing it. Mine has seen it and i feel better about it knowing he thinks its gorgeous. but maybe im just the crazy one in this group. its all about what you feel is right.
I want the big reveal so the only ones who are allowed to see the ACTUAL dress and me in the dress is going to be the bridal party, immediate family (both sides, both are heavily involved with the planning process) & a select few.
Everyone else, you want to see me in the dress either come to the wedding lol or wait for the photos because the only pic i am showing to friends and extended family is the david's bridal link of the dress.
So it's all up to you. xD Like i said i want the big reveal hehe
Re: Who sees your dress before the wedding?
However, most everyone had already seen my dress (at least in pictures) because it was my mom's.
I agree with PP's - this is a personal choice.
