My grandmother lived with my parents until March of this year when she went of to New Jersey to live with my aunt. My grandmother celebrated her 90th birthday in May.
My aunt contacted us last night to tell us that "Grandma D" was in the hospital and they thought she had a heart attack.
It was confirmed this morning that she suffered a heart attack and that she required emergency surgery or she would only live for another few months. She had the surgery this afternoon and my aunt was told that the bottom of her heart was useless and that her heart lost 20% of it function ability.
My aunt received a call tonight from the doctor who told her my grandmother did not look good and may not make it through the night. She passed away at 9:05 this evening - my aunt was 1 mile from the hospital.
My grandmother lived through the Depression, worked as a court stenographer and as a legal secretary, married the love of her life and could debate politics with the best of them.
I remember all the conversations we had about my wedding and how forward she was to being there to see me get married. She found a dress she loved and could not wait.
I have gone through almost an entire box of tissues in about 1 hour.
My brother, sister-in-law and their daughter were making their way to NJ this evening when Tracy (SIL) found out my grandmother passed. She did not want to tell my brother while he was driving so she waited over an hour before telling him to pull over because she felt sick and told him.
Sorry to go on and on, but I am alone right now and needed to "talk." Thanks for listening.
