update on venue renovation

Went to look at the venue today. They have a ton of construction in the lobby that they have blocked off and we're hoping they aren't working on it but there are no guarantees. Whatever it's clear across the hotel from where everything will be. They've RUINED my reception space. When I booked it was a gorgeous ballroom with wood paneling and mirrors, and the wallpaper was a deep red. Now? Its a boring conference room with YELLOW walls and no mirrors. Our colors are red and black, so yellow does not go at all! I started crying because it's so awful and there is nowhere else to go. The event coordinator offered to drape ONE wall in black for us but couldn't offer anything further. We have no more money left for draping or any other decor, it was never in the budget because the room had fit so well. At this point I don't know what to do because there is nothing to do. All the coordinator could say was sorry, but sorry doesn't fix this.

Re: update on venue renovation

  • Wow I'm so sorry to hear this! Are they able to offer you a discount or anything since you really aren't getting what you signed up for when you chose that location?

  • That totally sucks!!! My venue has been undergoing renovations and I haven't seen it's since it's been redone (and won't till the week before the wedding). It was freaking out both me and my mom. They are still doing renovations on the bathrooms and they "should be done" by my wedding. Eek... bathrooms need to be functional.

    See what they can do for you. And remember... people will notice all the little things you put out more than the walls. Definately get them to drape that one wall and see if you can do something with another wall or two..

    Make a wall of flowers- tape fake flowers to the wall in rows http://www.elsiemarley.com/a-wall-of-flowers.html

    Or a lot of people do like a ribbon type thing where they just string ribbons across a rope and have that be a backdrop and it looks lovely. http://greenweddingshoes.com/galleries/ceremony-decor/page/2/

    I'd like to just say that is horrible especially so very close to your wedding. Consider if you can get a few hundred dollars discount and use that money to do one thing that will make you love it again.

    <hugs>
  • Oh my gosh.. I am so sorry you are dealing with this and they are doing nothing to help fix it. I would definitely try to get a discount. But like PP said, people are going to notice all the details you put into the decor than the wall color. And of course as soon as you and your new hubby get there all they are going to be looking at is the two of you. I know it sucks, but don't let it ruin your wedding day.
  • Ugh, so sorry to hear that.  I'd ask for a discount on the room if they didn't a) let you know they were going to be totally renovating it and b) that they aren't going to be done in other parts of the hotel before your wedding!  Maybe if they do give you a discount you could look into some uplighting to change the vibe of the room.

    Otherwise, I know that it's going to totally change your vision of your wedding...but none of your guests are really going to be the wiser.  It sucks but if you guys can't do anything to change it, don't let it ruin your day!
