Memphis or Nashville?

So Hubby and I are fairly new to the midwest. We have been here for about 2 yrs and before we leave (my position is temporary), we would like to take advantage of seeing places close by to STL. So our plan is to try to take some weekend road trips to near by states. Our first stop is Tennessee, we would like to do this MLK weekend. So which would you recommend Memphis or Nashville? Why or why not? The drive is the same for both.

    I'm kinda partial to Memphis because it's where I live, but I'm from the Midwest. IMO you should do both. You could just ride 55 to Memphis and then get on 40 for the 2 1/2 additional hours to Nashville.

    This is true...Nash isn't that far from Memphis.

    I used to live in Memphis for a while and it's an interesting place. Lots to do, see and EAT! I love the local hole in the wall eateries! Memphis was good to me..also, you could venture south about 10 miles and be in Mississippi too!

    <div>Believe it or not, the winters are mild here. Well I take that back the weather here is bi polar. The first year here, we had snow in March. But last year and this year...so far so good. But you got to admit that up north cold is different!</div>

    Downtown can be pricey but that's a centralized location....the Peabody is nice but pricey....leatab? Any suggestions other than downtown...I wouldn't wanna be too far like collierville, Cordova, Germantown , north or east Memphis ...

    I currently live in the Midwest I'm going to grad school in Southern Illinois, which I hate by the way, I have been to Memphis once for a conference and to me other than Beale St there was nothing to do. We went to the MLK Museum and other than that me and the other conference goers went too impressed. The food is great by the way.  I absolutely love Nashville, we go through Nashville on our way back home to VA and we usually stay a day there. So I say but Nashville, but Chicago beats them both Lol

    I live in Cordova near a lot of places to shop I confess I am a shopaholic so I tend to suggest staying out this way. I may or may not be bougie so there are some parts i will rife through but defintely not stay. If you want to stay downtown I say start searching for deals now. Also get on Memphis groupon. They have some deals come through there from time to time. FWIW we go downtime once a week to eat at a restaurant/ bar we haven't tried yet. Well sometimes we go back to places but there is definitely a reason we do that.
