TeamBaby*

Your H is Filipino... right? Your little button and Kara's niece are pushing my Baby fever through the roof, now that I can picture what our babies will look like. :)

My fever goes in waves, I'm sure H is ready for it to settle down again haha. Whenever we do have kids I'm pretty sure I'll be staying far away from TB.

Re: TeamBaby*

  • Omg Shan, aren't they just the cutest?!!! I swear, I have not seen A Filipino and White baby that was not super adorable. I cant wait to have kids. H cant wait either, my niece definitely gives us the fever!

You obviously haven't seen my H's baby pictures. lol. But in all honesty I only find about 60% of the babies I see as cute. I'm a big fat meany.
  • LOL!!  Yes!  My H is Filipino.  He grew up in Manila and moved to the states after college.  HIs parents still live there- well actually his mom lives with me right now since he just deployed to Afgh.  So our daughter will def know both cultures and languages.  (We've actually even talked about moving to the Philippines for a couple years once I retire in the next 5 years and H can get an embassy or US gov't job over there).

During my entire pregnancy I CONSTANTLY wondered what she'd look like and prayed she's be cute! :)  Maybe it's because she's my child, but I seriously think she's the cutest baby I've ever seen. LOL  Even in the hospital, the nurses and staff kept saying she was SO cute (and they would even say they've seen all kinds of babies! haha).  I seriously didn't think she'd look much like me since the Asian gene is so strong, but I think she now looks more like me than my husband.  I wish you all could meet her.  She's such a cuddlebug!

As for the baby fever- enjoy your freedom now.  As much as I love her, no one ever told me that being a parent would be this hard.  :/

  • Shan: now you've got me all sorts of curious and you have to post a picture!!! LOL. I seriously have not seen a baby that wasn't cute, and I'm not one to hold back if I think a baby isn't very good looking. You can ask my H this. Haha. We even have a running joke that if our babies don't turn out as cute as our niece they better go back to my tummy and get cuter or something! TeamBaby: your H grew up there? Awesome! I was born there and moved here when I was 11. Although I still have cousins and aunts out there. It would be so fun for you to live there for a while. Now I miss the Philippines!

H's mom moved to Canada after college. She didn't teach H Tagalog and he really wished she would have. I'm trying to get H to pick it up so he can chat with her. She travels back to the Philippines all the time, but stopped taking the kids when H was in Jr. High. Apparently, the locals didn't care for H and his brother and it was getting unsafe for them to go, which makes me sad.  They still have a bunch of family there and I really wanted to go check it out myself- like you.

ETA: H is 50/50 so I really don't know what our kids will look like. My only thought it maybe like the Goslin gang. I really worry they wont look like me too! Oh well I'll know I carried them around for 9+ months

That may take an act of God because pretty sure they are only in print and his parents can barely email let alone scan and send a picture. When I ever make it back home or can get them to send me one in the mail I'll let you know.

OMG seriously?  I've seen some (I won't say ugly) not so cute babies.  I'm with Shan on this one.  I'm like 50/50.  I seriously don't think many babies are cute.  Mean I know.  And I hate having to lie to parents and tell them their baby is cute.  I feel so fake.  :/  My cousin told me something that made me laugh when I was pregnant.  She said "It's ok if your baby isn't cute, because you and your husband will be the only ones who don't know it."  LMAO

Do you still speak Tagalog?  Have you visited since?

That's sad that she didn't teach him the language.  Not uncommon unfortunately.  So many parents move to the west and just want their kids to fit in.  Do you know what part she was from?  There are a lot of places (especially down south) that aren't safe for foreigners or mixed kids.  It's such a shame.  H's dad is very well known, so I worry when he talks about wanting to travel down to the Mindanao area.  And he's FROM the Philippines.  We went to Manila in Dec 2010 and I have mixed feelings about the country.  It's like there's no middle class.  You're either well off or dirt poor.  I've just never seen so much poverty right next to malls that have stores like Louis Vuitton, Hermes, etc.  And the gov't is so corrupt.  You literally have to pay for everything.  Like parking- and not just in parking garages- but places like strip malls.  Every single parking spot requires a payment.  But where does the money go??!!  Def not to the roads and maintenance.  It's just very sad.

  • Yes I speak it, read and write it! I love being bilingual. We try to visit every few years. Last time I was back there was almost 3 years ago. H was there a couple of times and met my cousins/aunt. We have plans on going with the rest of the family for Xmas 2013. I'm so excited. Shan, I'm looking forward to the pics. ;)

Her family is from the southern part.... Dipalo.. I believe. That or Mindin, but I think they needed to fly into Mindin. (idk if that is the spelling either, just heard H throw those names around-- he was hamming it up with the other Filipinos on our Cruise). I do know they are from the southern parts because I called to check in with the tsuami hit)   His mother fits your description to a T, she just wanted to be an American, fit in and give her kids that life. She didn't realize the benefits of being bilingual.

Yep!  That's in Zamboanga- part of Mindanao (the southern region of the Philippines).  It's a really bad area- especially for foreigners.  I can understand why she didn't want to bring them there.  It's primarily a Muslim area and lots of ties to Al Qaeda.  We (the Army) have Special Forces, PSYOP, and Civil Affairs teams down there right now.  My neighbor just returned from a year deployment there.
