What order did you book vendors?

So we moved our date up a few weeks after finding a hall we loved & having availability at our church - woo hoo! I have a photog booked, meeting with a DJ this weekend, and have reached out to a couple florists...

Which are the vendors that should be handled right away, which (if any) should be waited on? I still need video, transportation, etc.

    We hired our photogrpaher, video and DJ right after we booked the hall and church. If you wait too long, just like the hall, you may not get who you really want.

    we did the church and venue first and then photog, flowers, DOC, DJ. We waited a bit on video, hotel, and trans but we have everything booked now and we're a little over 9 months out.
    other things we booked are linens and photobooth which I did before the video and hotel.
    I wouldn't wait, book who you like soon so you have them!

    I agree.  I don't know if there is a set order per se, but the sooner you look at vendors the more options you have.  It definitely gets overwhelming so try to focus on one vendor at a time.

    we booked our photog first, but that's because he is a friend (we checked his availability against our church and reception hall before we booked them) then we booked the church and reception hall. nest we did the dj. now i am working on the florist and transportation. found the BM dresses already, still looking for me. as soon as a find my dress i will schedule alterations. btw, my wedding is july 1, 2011.

    We booked the church first because I knew I wanted to be married there no matter what.  As soon as we had the church down, we booked our venue.

    Next we booked photographer and a band 10-11 months before the wedding since good ones tend to get snapped up far in advance.

    Florist I didn't book until 5-6 months before the wedding.  Cake baker about 3 months out.

    We booked our ceremony/reception/catering venue right away (we knew what we wanted). This helped set the date. We have meetings with a DJ and Photographer next week and are 12 months away from the wedding.  The officiant is next, and I have no idea when I'll look for a dress.  I don't know if it is truly necessary to book this far in advance, but I personally enjoy crossing things off my list- this will let me relax a bit and slowly start to plan the smaller details that make a wedding personal.
