starting to register

im starting to register for our wedding has anyone ever used myregistry . com?

Re: starting to register

  • It's what I'm using (easier to keep everything in one place, I figured). Only problem I've had with it is some of the older guests (grandparents, parents' friends) don't really understand the online registry thing, so a store people can actually go into and shop in would probably be useful on top of it. Tech savvy/younger people have had no issue with it whatsoever.

  • They let you add from any website, right?  I've never used it, but you might want to check out Amazon's universal registry.  We used it and had things from Amazon and from other stores on the universal part, and it worked well for us.

I'm tech savvy and pretty much only order registry gifts online, but I found myregistry.com to be a PITA to use.  It's not too bad if you are just buying one item, but you can't easily go from one item to the next.  I understand that it's easier for the bride and groom, but I'd honestly rather that someone have four or five smallish registries than use one of the large universal ones.

OP, I'd recommend Amazon for an online registry and then one or two other stores.  Also, stores often offer completion bonuses or free gifts if you spend X amount on a particular brand that you won't get unless you register through them directly (as opposed to registering for items at Macy's through a universal registry).

  • I used Amazon's registry, and linked items from places like Bed Bath and Beyond and Macys to it.  In the comments field I was sure to tell people where the item could be purchased locally.  It was REALLY nice to have everything on one all inclusive registry.

(some of our items were cheaper on amazon but could be found at 2-3 local stores too).  My mom printed the registry for my grandma to shop in stores, but about 75% of the older crowd just gave us cash at the wedding anyway.

As a guest who likes to purchase items in the store to avoid shipping fees, I find myregistry.com to be a PITA. Sure, you can go in to the store and purchase the item, but then you have to make sure to go back and update it to show it as purchased on the website, whereas with the registries in the store, it automatically takes it off the registry at check out. I get having an amazon registry for items that might not necessarily be in stores, but I would do at least one registry in store for guests who prefer to look in store and see the items before they purchase them.

Edited for my atrocious spelling :)
