Distance from church to ceremony site?

Hi ladies,

I wanted to know your opinion on whether or not this is too far away for a reception site: google map

The church my FI and I attend is on 142 ave and coral way. My uncle has a friend who lives in Cutler Cay so we are able to use their clubhouse for free for our reception! (check this video out of the property http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv2mITGvEzw)  However I am afraid people will think it is too far of a drive... what do you guys think?

Thank you!

I've been a guest at a few weddings where there was a distance between the ceremony and reception site (one was a 45 min drive, another about an hour). I wasn't bothered because I knew this ahead of time.  Just let your guests know ahead of time and those who want to come will rent a car and go with the flow.

I looked at the video - it is beautiful!  The fact that it's free - priceless!
  • Are your guests familar with the area? If so I say go for it. it not manybe arrange some form of transportation.

  • I have been to weddings where the distance has been around 30 min drive and I wasnt really bothered about it besides, in your case, its worth it girl!!! I would definitely go for it!

  • all of the guests (except my dad) are familiar with the area, so I don't think I'll need to arrange for transportation, right? I'm thinking of adding a page with directions in the invitation packet.

    Thank you for your advice!

  • Good idea!

  • I think 30 minutes is acceptable!

  • I don't think 30 minutes is too long a drive for guests.   I was also concerned because my ceremony is in Miami Beach and my reception in Coral Gables, but at the end of the day, most everyone has a car so it's fine.  And almost everyone I talked to who would be invited said they had no problem with it.  If you can save money using the clubhouse, then go for it!  Putting in directions would be a nice touch just in case someone is unsure how to get there.
  • I think it's fine. I wouldn't be bothered.

And if it's a big deal to you, would you be willing to change your church?

I know I would not mind AT ALL and at the end, do what's best for you financially. The people who may complain and not go, would make any excuse....the ones who really want to be there, will  be there.

I attended a church ceremony at st kevin (127 ave and 40 st) and the reception was by FIU North Campus in Broward....So, people do it all the time! Go for it!

  • oh wow. i work at the FIU north campus, and from st kevin (kind of the area where i live) that's quite a drive!! (thankfully there's a shuttle bus from the south campus to the north campus so i don't have to drive everyday) so i guess mine isn't that bad.

we're not willing to change the church bc that's the church we attend and it means a lot to us. and if i can get the cutler cay clubhouse for free, i'm just going to go ahead and do it!

thank you guys for helping make my decision!!!
