Prince William is Engaged

Hurray!  I've been rooting for this couple from the start, so I'm glad to see all the media attention hasn't driven a wedge between them.  Kate Middleton just seems to be a genuine person.  Now the real flurry of paparrazi will really start as they plan their wedding!  I think it's really nice that he gave her his mother's ring.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that I will fight them if they try to steal MY DAY!

But they said spring/summer so I'm good.

Cate, I was just going to post about this and you beat me to it. :)

I'm so excited. The little girl in me is just dying to see the dress, the pageantry, the royal family in all their finery...swoon.

That aside, it's big news and very cool that we'll be seeing history in the making. I will be glued to the TV.

I'll probably watch it.  I wasn't even born when Charles and Di got married, but I've of course seen videos and the pomp and circumstance is astounding, something I would utterly hate having to deal with myself, but it sure is entertaining to watch.  I do however remember watching Princess Diana's funeral though, which was so sad, so it's cute that he gave her his mother's ring.

I must say though, I don't think Kate will ever even come close to filling Diana's shoes.  Nothing against her or anything, but Princess Di was such an icon that I don't think she can ever be matched in popularity.

I think Princess Di was a very sad woman, and the whole story is rather tragic.  She was hated by her husband's family, her husband loved another woman, and her privacy was invaded by everyone and ultimately led to her death.

I think one of the reason Wills took 7 years to propose to Kate from when they first started dating is that he didn't want to rush into anything, and wanted to make sure she was up for the role of being his wife and part of the royal family.  I gotta say, it's a role I wouldn't want.

Kate's older than Diana was when she got married (she was only 20 years old), so hopefully she'll be able to handle the spotlight a little better (namely, avoid it).  I expect this wedding will be compared an awful lot to Diana's, but in actuality have very little in common.  Kate's very fashion-forward so I expect the wedding to be a bit less traditional.  Wills also doesn't seem to be the egotist his father is, and completely smitten with Kate.  It's cute!

I'll watch it, I love the royal family (I even like them on FB lol) I wasn't born when Princess Diana got married but I remember her funeral (its one of the oldest memories I have actually). It's so sad she isn't here for this, she loved those boys so much. Its awesome that he gave her his mother's ring.

And I think Cate Middleton is great. She seems very down to earth.

I am so excited about this too. My Mom and Dad live in London so she said this morning people there are just going crazy. She is going to go all stalker and try and crash the wedding.

    I told her good luck!!!

    Yay!  Happy news!

This story made me so happy. SO and I have been together for 10 years and it's nice to see other truly long-term couples make it official. I yelled through the bathroom door at Mr.Owl today when I heard the good news. He laughed at me and my obsession with all things royal and wedding-related.

I think this is so sweet. Her ring is pretty too. I've heard so many people go on about how "it's not a diamond!" but ye olde tradition was to give a sapphire, not a diamond.

I was so happy for them when I heard the news.  I figured it had to be coming soon after that TLC special on them last week.  I was glued to the TV when his parent's wedding aired live and also for his uncle's wedding, so I'm sure I'll be glued to the TV for this wedding as well.

I'm late to this, but I'm happy for them!

She seems "normal/not BSC," they dated for 7 years, he seems to be grounded and is sensible in wanting to make sure she/they could handle the royal life together.

They are good example, as opposed to the "you should rush into marriage it will solve everything if u r in luv!!1!!" attitude that you sometimes see in the U.S. these days....I'm looking at you, Bristol Palin (though they did call it off)....

A negotiating saying is, "the right offer at the wrong time is the wrong offer."  It seems like Will and Kate have made their decision at the right time for them.  Cheers to them! (Ok I'm not British).

It made my heart skip when I heard about the ring. I remember when Princess Diana died. She was an amazing, tragic woman. I'm not sure that Kate or anyone else can really fill those shoes... but I'm happy that Will gave her his mother's ring. It shows (in my opinion) how much he really loves and trusts her, that he would give her something so precious to him.
