Military Brides

Hi Girls!

Just wanted to say hello!! My fiance is currently at FTLW for an EBOLC course...once he returns he'll officially be deployable (he graduates on on Oct 28th and I CAN'T WAIT!! I'm flying out so we can drive back together).  Our wedding is June 16, 2012.  Hopefully he doesn't get deployed but obviously it can happen at any time..Nice to hear other girls in the same position....You girls are amazing! :)

    Welcome to the boards!
Just make sure you get a military clause in all your vendor's contracts and you'll be okay in case of a sudden deployment :)

Agreed! Tell us about what you have so far planned, what you're working on, what your colors/theme/feel is!

Good idea regarding the clause! So far all the vendors have been great...we're getting married June 16, 2012 in CT. It's a church ceremony and then the reception is at a hotel (which we loved b/c people can have fun all night and stay over)...So far we've booked the locations, the limo, the photographer/videographer, make up and hair...i got my dress and my bridesmaids picked their's today!! They are blue pastel and long chiffon.  Totally random - but do you think chairs with covers and matching light blue sashes for the reception or chivari chairs?? What are you girls doing for center pieces? Tell me about your weddings!

Hi Meghan, is that your full name? I suggest asking the Knot Gods to delete your SN, maybe Hike can help with that. PERSEC is important.

I don't like chair covers, out of those two, I'd go with the fancy chairs. For centerpieces, I did http://offbeatbride.com/2010/01/diy-photo-lantern-centerpiece, but painted them in our colors, and instead of photos of us, I named each table after one of our heroes. So on one side was the table number, the second side was a black and white photo of the person, and the third side was a quote or info about the person. And we did huge mason jars with hydrangeas instead of the little bottles.

The BM dresses sound beautiful! I am liking the colors. :)

H and I just got married three weeks ago tomorrow! Woot! Our colors were blue and yellow and we had white chivalri chairs *favorite* We got married on the waterfront here in WA.
We did manzonita branches with yellow flowers and tea lights

So a light blue is one of your colors, what else are you using? :)
You have been a busy planner! You have so much taken care of already. Way to go!

OH FTL, I didn't know you did a dessert table? Can I ask, about how many different desserts did you have? And how many guests?

  • edited December 2011
*sigh* I didn't know I had one either... lol My aunt just.. decided to make one happen.. ON TOP of a candy buffet and cake.. oi Everyone was hyped up on sugar haha

    Umm... rough etim:
    4 different bars - 24 each
    3 different cups- 16 each?

    For 70 people.
They went fast. I think no one wanted cake because my aunts desserts are way too good lol

Oh man! ha ha, Sounds like a lot of sweets! I wanted to do that and my cake, but like not over do it with the mini desserts, ya know? Knowing my sister, she's gonna over do it! Ha ha! Whatever.

It's worth it. It looks great, and people LOVE having options... especially since not everyone is going to love your flavors of cake ya know?
I wouldn't have had the budget to do it myself, but my aunt did it all and paid for it so I'm not complaining :)

Right, that's exactly why I am doing it, cause whenever I go to a wedding, I'm always like, "cake? Meh..." LOL I don't know why that is. Although, if I went to Beach's wedding I would have been ALL ABOUT THE CAKE.
  • edited December 2011
haha true that. I wonder if Beach used fondant though? I hate fondant... I love using it to bake with since it's easy to decorate cakes with, but it tastes awful. That's why we did a buttercream frosting. much more edible hah
    What's your cake ?
Ours was champagne cake with a ganache filling between the layers and a rum buttercream frosting.

Ours will be 3 seperate cakes. 2 Black forrest (FI's fave) and 1 Strawberry. My aunt is a baker, and that's all the details she would give me about the cakes, which is fine because if it's not funfetti, then I don't really care what cakes we have. I'm pretty sure she will be using butter cream as well. I don't mind fondant, but I prefer buttercream.

My cake was pretty extrodinary.  It was dark chocolate with raspberry cream filling (Our favorite)... Soooooo amazing. We had buttercream frosting, but there was a red fondant ribbon, and H thought it was fruit by the foot.. Silly H!! I think I'm going to order a small one for when he comes home, since our top tier is at IL's house, and we won't even be together on our first anniversary anyway.  I Like Cake.. I might just make a cake today..

LOL CAB you're so funny with the funfetti >_< hahaha
mmm Well I'm sure people will love one or the other! Just make sure they all know that there are options there :) yummy black forest!

bahahahaha Sami fruit by the foot.. That's so funny! I actually laughed out loud to that! that would be so sweet to order a mini one for when he comes home :)

We didn't mean to save the top tier, but our caterer didn't cut it. Idk why... We told them to cut it all. We weren't doing the whole "save the tier" thing since he'll be deployed on our 1 year anniv... but oh well, we have it!
  • edited December 2011
Yeah, that's why we're gonna have our tiers seperated, so that we can label the diff. flavors. We are doing the 1 yr top tier thing, and that cake will be the black forrest. LOL, I better not tell FI about the fruit by the foot thing, Sami, cause he will totally think we should do that for our cakes! :P Mmmmm now I want cake!
