Stay away from Hilton Hawaiian Village Please

We gave my wife's wedding dress to Hilton, at their reccomendation, to steam the day before our wedding to be ready for our special day. Instead of steaming it, they washed in in the washing machine, ruining it. They offered to get us a new dress and alter it to fit the same as the old. We were able to locate and arrange to get the replacement dress to Hawaii in time, but the seamstresses Hilton provided who were supposed to alter the dress were not familiar with wedding dresses and destroyed the new dress as well, leaving us with a painful and terribly fitting dress . The pictures were ruined as was the whole day.  Hilton agreed to compensate us for the dresses and fly us back to Hawaii to make up for the day they ruined and told us to enjoy the rest of our time on the Islands. Upon returning home, they denied ever making these promises and refuse to provide what we relied on.
Do not stay at the property and patronize these people that have no integrity and do not make good on promises they make. Do not let them ruin your dream day as well.

I saw your same post on the Wedding Woes thread which said your wedding was over 2 years ago.  Were you able to get any of this in writing?  Also, do you have the specific names of the staff you were working with?

Honestly, 2 years is a long time ago, and I worry that much of the staff may no longer even be around.  If you haven't already taken this directly to Hilton corporate, I strongly suggest that you do so.  Send it to the General Manager of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but also to Hilton Corporate Headquarters -- include all of the proof & documentation you can, including the receipt for your stay, manager / staff / seamstress' names, documentation of 2nd dress purchase, photos, etc.

Something isn't quite adding up here, as I can't imagine a major hotel putting a wedding gown in a washing machine for ANY reason.  Furthermore, why wouldn't they just offer you cash compensation for the destroyed gown and let you buy your own replacement & alterations?  It all seems odd to me, but the only people that can try to make things better are the ones I listed above.

I'm with Tanq. Something doesn't add up. Resorts like the Hilton know way better than to put a wedding dress through the laundry. If this isn't MUD, then I hope you have some documentation - though I assume you would have already gone the route Tanq suggested if you did.

The only kind of posts this person has made was the exact same one here. This is weird and I'm wondering if it's fake.

    No its not fake
The director of front services was with us, from when the initial call was made that the dress was washed to the promise to fly us back.
I spoke to her, I contacted the hotels general manager, I spoke to hilton corporate.
They denied everything they promised except the original dress they agreed to reimburse us for.  They put us in touch with their insurance carrier who came to the same result.
We filed suit against them last April, and they have been driagging it out until our trial date which is set for next month.

I just wanted to get the word out there that these people have no conscience and no integrity

I also disputed the charges from our stay, as my family collectively spent about $6,000 over many rooms.  They indicated that we authorized them to charge our cards so we had no recourse and our CC companies denied the dispute.

"Resorts like the Hilton know way better than to put a wedding dress through the laundry."

This is the part I cant get past.  I am at a complete loss how a silk wedding dress that was to be steamed managed to get washed.  Not only did the fabric get ruined, the stitching came undone on some of it.  It was terrible.
They have no explanation as to how it happened, they just said that it was an error on thier part.

I know you are trying to give us advice, but if your dispute is going to trial, I would not discuss the matter at hand. If you loss your case, the Hilton has grounds for a libel lawsuit.

We are staying at the Hilton, but my dress is travel ready (lace).

Oh no! I hope that maybe the staff have changed or that they have made big improvements since your wedding two years ago.
We are strongly considering the HIlton Hawaiian Village for our wedding next year and now I'm a little nervous!

Well I would tell you to avoid them as the same people who lied to us and betrayed our trust are still working there. You shouldn't believe anything verbal and demand every aspect of what you expect on writing. Call the general manager and voice your concerns and hesitation. Maybe they'll give you a discount or something.

Yeah, you're into breaking the TOS territory here. The heads up from two years ago is appreciated, but this isn't the place to air your legal issues.

I have to put my two cents and local knowledge in - the turnover rate for hotel staff here in Hawaii is very very low. People make it their careers, so chances are that the same staff will be there. I've tried getting jobs in the hotels and it is very hard, because no one ever quits!

Anyways, I agree with the above posters that you shouldn't be airing your legal issues here. But this is a great example of why you should take your wedding gown to be steamed/fitted/etc. to a specialist who knows what they are doing. I would never trust a hotel with my wedding gown! Too important. I'd rather pay a lot of money to have it looked after by a professional. Be careful, ladies!
