I have been on 7 cruises. In my opinion, Carnival and Royal Caribbean are the best. Carnival is nicknamed the 'fun ship'. Its a really fun atmosphere, the clubs are fun, they have lots of deck parties and contests, and its alot alot of fun. There's bars like every two steps, lol. If you're looking for that choose Carnival. Royal Caribbean is more for the older laid back crowd. If you are cruising to relax, then Royal Caribbean would be it. They both have casino's and are both a good time, depending on what kind of vacation you want. FI and I are cruising on Carnival for our honeymoon. Our cruise is a 7night Southern Caribbean cruise leaving from San Juan, PR. We go to five different islands. St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. FI has never cruised before so I'm planning all the excursions and whatnot on what I know he wants to do. Most cruises leave from Florida (Orlando/Port Canaveral, Tampa, Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale). Those cruises normally visit 4 islands and have 2days at sea. FI and I have 5 islands and one day at sea. You definitely would have to search the cruise line websites for the different cruises that are offered. It all depends on where you think you would want to go the most. We used to decide by looking to see what it is to do on the different islands, and then choosing. The cruise lines offer shore excursions and tours that you can go on, and you can also go on shoretrips.com, they're really good too. And they pick you up and drop you off at your ship. You don't have to even go on tours. I know when I went to Cozumel we just hung out by the ship. Bar hopped at Senor Frogs and Carlos and Charlies and went to a local beach. It all depends on the island. Just make sure you're back on the ship about 35mins to an hour before the ship leaves dock. The price depends on when you go. Cruise are most expensive June, July, beginning of August, and Holidays. Our cruise price is $799 a person. Total plus tax $1866. Flights to Puerto Rico run about $230-400 per person round trip, you just have to catch the airline at its cheapest. As far as cheapest flights, I would say fly AirTran. They are merging with Southwest and are very good. As far as best flights and service, I like USAirways. Shore excursions vary in price depending on the activity you want to do. You would have to search the cruise website for that too. Like I knew FI really wanted to swim with Dolphins. We're doing that in St. Thomas nd its $160 per person. I wanted to tour Barbados and swim with the sea turtles. We're doing that also and that's $144per person. They have lazy beach days and tours that run for only $30-50 also, so like I said you have to check it out. The price also differs depending on your room type. They have interior rooms(inside cabins/no windows/balcony), ocean view rooms(porthole window), balcony rooms, and suites (larger balcony rooms). I like the balcony rooms. Its nice to wake up in the morning and sit on the balcony and see the port you're docked at or sit on your balcony at night watching the waves, sleeping with the door cracked to hear the water. The greatest thing about cruises to me is that all your meals are included and you can eat and order as much as you want in the restaurant at no charge. You can get the beverage package which is only like $20 and you get unlimited fountain drinks the whole cruise and all you have to pay for is alcoholic beverages. This is both cruise lines. Carnival has a steakhouse that you have to pay $30 for and Royal Caribbean has an italian restaurant and a Johnny Rockets on board that you have to pay extra for. They have dining rooms and buffets on both ships, sushi stands, asian stations, every food you can think of and its unlimited and free. Even 24hr pizza and ice cream. Best thing ever. Lol

Sorry for the essay, but as you can tell, I LOVE cruises. Best way to travel in my opinion. Feel free to ask me any questions.! I've been to alot of different places. Hope this helps.!

  • Based on what PP said, a cruise may be out of your budget. Im going on my first one in November, so I don't know what to expect. I know that the cruise itself ends up being only about 1/2 of the total cost (excursions, alcohol and airfare being the other 1/2).

I thought about a cruise for my honeymoon but opted against it because I've heard that cruises can feel a bit "rushed" because your constantly getting off the ship, and are then rushed to get back in time, etc. I personally would opt for an all inclusive resort and park myself on an island for a period of time.

    Good luck though.

  • We're doing a honeymoon cruise!  7 days!!  Go online and look at the different cruise lines and decide which one fits your budget and where you want to go.  Honestly, you have to try criuising for yourself.  I heard many stories...good, bad, etc....I LOVE CRUISING!!

    Try it and good luck

    Happy Planning!
  • We're doing a 5 day Carnival cruise, but we're going to make it into a 7 day honeymoon since it doesn't leave until 2 days after the wedding.  I've only ever been on Carnival, but I love cruising with them.  And the price can't really be beat.
