NWR: Proud mom moment...

My dear son graduated from high school yesterday.  We had a ton of fun throughout the weekend.  My exH and I even managed to share the same space (mulitple times) without killing one another.  Of course, my former mother-in-law was here; he wouldn't dare misbehave in front of his mom (I love that woman!).

Several awards were given out.  The very last one was from the Jesuit Secondary Education Association, recognizing the senior (by a faculty vote) who models the ideal graduate of Jesuit education by being intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice in generous service to the people of God.  Upon reading that description, the Headmaster then called my son's name.  It actually made me gasp; I held back tears.  So awesome!  So proud!

And now, he's off to France, where he will work on an organic farm (in exchange for room and board) for 10 days.

How can that little baby who romped around in my uterus now be off into the world??

Aww Lisa, I got tears reading your post. I've also had my share of proud mom moments, and nothing prepares you for the realization that you raised a great person who will go out into the world and make a difference.

As the Aussies say "Good on ya mate". You did a great job, and I'm sure he will continue to make you proud.

I am NOT looking forward to next year, when my daughter graduates and I have to (possibly) be in the same area as her dad's wife. She loathes me. But at least I'll be there with Kevin who can help me through those tough times. Should be an interesting graduation party, since all her friends are near us, and her dad *could* throw a party, but as usual, it would only be for his family and none of her friends. Same as every birthday, her First Communion, etc.

Congrats to you as well.  It's so much fun watching it all evolve, isn't it?  From day to day, it seems like such a slow process then, bam!  Off to college in a couple of months.  Whew!
