VENT Hair salons!

Can someone please explain to me when hair salons think it is okay to charge sooo much money for bridal styling?? I am trying to hard to find a good hari salon in the westchester area that doesn't charge $350! I found one salon that will charge $150 for hair and $150 for make up! That's not a deal! Ugh!

Any suggestions?

    I agree....I think its a lot.

Check out storybooklooks.com. I lived next to Jeanna for a while. She sent me info the other day and she's very affordable.

She isn't from a salon though, and would come to wherever you are. Not sure if that matters to you.

Why not just use your normal hair stylist?  Unless they are OOT I dont' understand why people would trust the most important hair day of their life to someone they just met and not the person does their hair all the time.

I also think it's rediculous to charge that much $ for hair.

I'm using my regular hair stylist and she is not charging me for the day of, but there are 8 BMs getting their hair done for $60 each. I paid $60 for a trial and LOVED it.

My make up will be $110

I hear you ....in my case since I moved up here to the Hudson Valley I left my hairstylist after being w/ him for 16yrs only because I was so tired of travellng. I commute all week long and its a 2 hr commute each way so that was my reasoning,,,,He's great w/ color but ok w/ styling but I was always able to deal with him and guide him to the look I wanted -- he definitely wasn't good for weddings unfortunately - I found that out for a wedding I was in & my updo took longer then it should have w/ alot of anxiety going along with it - it wasnt turning out right. God bless him tho <great guy> -- he's a perfectionist but was too nervous for me.

The issue is I'm onto my 5th hairstylist cause I can't seem to find anyone who does the whole enchilada and knows their stuff. Some are good w/ just color...some are good w/ just cuts....Doing bridal hair whether its an updo or a bridal look is also a whole other level...I agree w/ Bat937 ... find someone that can get use to you and and how your hair is.  I also come to find certain stylists won't do brides.

If it makes you feel any better I tried a salon in Ridgefield CT that got great reviews...Tried em ... went thru 3 hairstylists and basically you dont always get what you paid for! To top things off --- they would charge me $200 just for travelling fees for the day of AND to have my makeup and hair done they were charging $600 bucks!  Another salon was charging me $500. Used my inside voice to scream!

Here's what I know thus far ... If you're getting married in white plains and you want somene to come to you without charging an exorbitant amount look for a salon in White Plains...2 people that have been recco'd that are from white plains area is:
Trish D'Aprilla Salon ...and Stratos...I think if you look under the tab on the knot for beauty you can get his info. Both of these peeps were recco'd here at one time. ...If you have a photographer you can always ask them for a reccomendation?....I've tried every avenue possible. But in asking my photographer that's how I found Christine to do my makeup and then when I saw the reviews here about her - I immediately booked a trial with her so that's a done deal :-)

Other reccos I've written down from other knotties:
Michelle Loconte (from I do hair & makeup) I think she's in Jersey but will travel
    LaSorella Salon
Oggi / Adam & Eve Their in White Plains / Yonkers area *Claudine supposedly good w/ color & cut.

    Hopefully this has helped you.

Now if I can just find an awesome stylist that I can go to before and after my wedding I'll be golden. If I do land on someone I'll definitely post it!
    Wishing you luck.

As the old saying goes, anything with the word "bridal" or "wedding" attached to it (often) cost more.

The salon I went to had an "updo" price, (like most) And I think another line called "special occasion" hair.

Meaning, even if it's not an updo, you will still pay higher than a normal style.

But, remember they spend a lot more time on brides, and worry about you possibly not liking your hair.

Like pp's suggested, try to see if the stylist who normally does your hair is available. Also, if you go to the salon, rather than have then come to you, it will often cost less.

Also, call around and request "special occasion" prices. First ask if they do special occasion hair, not all will.

(Even if they have a special bridal price, you will have an idea of the range. )

And hope you can find something that fits your budget!

My hair was $125 and my make-up was $85. I went to the salon, so they didn't come to me. But just wanted you to know that affordable prices are out there!

    GL! HTH!
