jobs for friends on wedding day? besides bridesmaid?

I'm only having 2 bridesmaids, but I have a few very close girlfriends who I want to include in my wedding. any suggestions? I was thinking of having them read poems during the ceremony. but don't know if they'll be comfortable w/ that (speaking in front of 200 people). i don't want to give them "jobs" cuz I don't them to worry about stuff during the day; i want them to have fun, but feel special.

You could have them make sure people sign the guestbook. Like Greeters.

Why not invite everyone for hair & makeup the morning of?  Even if they're not having services done, it's fun to have people in the room for extra conversation.  Also, they are RIGHT THERE if you think of any last minute needs.

When I got married last October, I had the same issue I had friends that I wanted to include.  My girls came by while we were getting ready, and shared in the excitement with us.  They made phone calls for me to make sure that everyone was on schedule, (called the limo, and caterer etc.)
Maybe one of your friends could be in charge of bringing your bag to the reception, (make up, perfume, bobby pins..)  I had totally spaced it, and left all of my stuff in the hotel room so I was bummed that I couldnt freshen up.
No matter what your friends will be happy and excited to be a part of your day!

Just invite them. Don't give them any jobs to do. They're guests. Let them have fun and feel special and honored that they were invited at all..

i'm getting a couple of them to help with flowers (we are doing flowers ourselves). onf of my best friends is very artsy and loves the idea of arranging the flowers herself! they are eager to help.  i think for the other girls, i'll ask them if they want to pick a poem to read during the ceremony.  thanks!!
