Going to David's Bridal on Sunday!

Hey Ladies!

Here's a post as some had suggested... sharing our triumphs, checks, and what's coming up...

I am going to see one of my BM's on Sunday who lives about 2 hours away, and we're going to David's Bridal on Sunday.  She has had a bad experience at a different DB's, so hopefully this one will have good service.  It's DAY ONE of looking at bridesmaid dress options for me -- wedding July 2011.  I may look at bridal gowns while we're there if I see anything I want to try.  I've looked on their website a few times and my concern is modesty ... in a church...  Yeah, gonna add straps to whatever I get, I think.  I'm a plus girl and the Lord surely had fun blessing my upper body... makes it difficult to wear some of the new modern tops and newer dresses, because I definitely don't want them to be a distraction!!

haha!

Anyone else got good stuff coming up, triumphs to share?

    Sounds fun!

I'm going tomorrow with a BM to look at a new little wedding shop that just opened. I think we're going to get lunch too

I tried on dresses at David's the first time I tried anything on. I was positive I couldn't wear strapless because...well, I'll just be real with y'all, perkiness is lacking and strapless wouldn't usually stay up! Through weight lose, upper body gets pretty effected. But I was super super SUPER shocked how strapless fit and if you try it on, you'll see that you're not going anywhere! If you are concerned about modesty though (which really, so many dresses are strapless now it doesn't have the same implications anymore) you can add straps or get a wrap or jacket. David's has some beautiful dresses! If I hadn't fallen in love with another dress when I was "looking" at a couture shop I would definitely have bought from David's. Great dresses at great prices! I also got my BM dresses there. We picked the style 83707 in cornflower, my girls love it! Have fun!!!

I have my print-outs ready to go!  I have a rehearsal Sat. Morning, then coming home to take care of parents' dog while they're out in the mountains, then leaving after supper to go to my townhouse near there.... our appt. is for 12 noon on Sunday!  I found some BM dresses I like that I want to add a sash to (probably a black sash).  Probably going to stick with my initial color choice, which is Kelly Green!!

    :-)

Sounds like fun!  My wedding dress came from David's.  My BMs wanted modest dresses and it was hard to find much there for them but we ended up finding something that they really liked and ordered it through Netbride.com for less than 1/2 price of the bridal shop so it was a great deal!  (The bridal shops around here could order it but nobody had it as a sample so we figured that if we were going to order it unseen, we might as well save some money!!)

No wedding planning for me this weekend (I'm already married) but I plan to spend time relaxing!  We have been so busy every weekend lately that it is nice to have a weekend with nothing planned!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Have fun and good luck! I got my dress from David's and I love it! I am going with my bridesmaids in a few weeks to choose their dresses! We are going with the Horizon color, which is like a royal blue.

I had an awful experience at one DB, but a great experience a a different one.
Also be wary when they say they can add "sleeves" to any strapless gown. their idea of sleeves is satin spaghetti straps of small pieces of tulle with cheap beading that will not match the dress.
Here's a picture of a dress I did not get, with the "sleeves"

I ended up with a strapless gown, but I love it!

Also, they will have you try on one of their long line bras, but I found a much prettier one at Dillard's for about the same price as DB.

Ah yes -- I got a longline bra but I need to lose about 2 more inches at my waist for it to fit comfortably.  I'll just use what they have for try-ons, for now.  :-)

I may end up strapless.  It just depends.  Some of the "cap sleeves" I would rather it be fabric that matches the dress, so I'm not sure about the cap sleeves that are more like see-thru organza with unmatched beading.

I have a bunch of dresses I love from different designers that Bridal Mart carries, so I'm definitely nowhere close to a decision yet, and DB is just a start.  Thankfully, they have dresses in our budget (as well as plenty out of our budget), but the bridesmaids dresses plus the discount they offer may be a good incentive... IF i find a bridal dress I love.

Thanks for the advice ladies!!!!  I'll post my progress, if we find some keepers.  It may be all for naught, but you never know until you go!

I got my dress and a bolero jacket at DB.

My strapless dress without the jacket:

    My dress with the jacket:
Definitely an option you should consider.  Then again, I am getting married in November, so that jacket is more of a necessity, lol.

I got my dress at davids also.  I went there first, and hated all the dresses and the service, but when they came out with their new season (keep and eye out in january) I fell in love...with a SHORT dress.  I am big also, and was suprised that I loved this dress the way that I did.  I had always wanted a long dress.
My flower girl's mom actually told me that she had spoken to another girl who liked my dress but was worried about it on a large person...she was able to pull out her picts and now this other bride is going to go try it on.  if you want to check it out here you go!  Oh, I do wish I would have gone strapless and not used the jacket though.  http://jessicajeremyfelkel.shutterfly.com/

    Have fun!

JAF - I love the lace jacket you wore!  If I remember correctly, that lace jacket it specifically designed for that dress... but I might still consider it as an option if DB sells it separately.

My biggest concern, is my DD chest.  Most bodices are made too shallow (vertically), so I'm afraid I'll be popping out the top!  Hopefully when its in my size it will be okay.  I get to save the popping out for soon-to-be husband's eyes only!

yes you are right, they do make it for that particular dress.  one option to consider, is that pretty much any dress can be made into a corset back.  a lot of women do it for the belly, but it can be adjusted just as easily to fit the bust better.  I almost did it on thise one, just because I wanted the purple laces instead of the purple belt.  Belts don't fit my body very well.
Find a dress you love, and talk to the seamstress...pretty much anything can be worked out and made to fit.  I went to a seamstress at burlington coat factory to get mine done, it was much less expensive than what any bridal shop offers.    Good luck shopping
Oh, I doubt they sell that particular one seperatly, but here is another lace bolero that I found that goes to a 3x.  http://celebrate-milestones.com/laboja.html I  considered this one before I found my dress so my arms would be covered in the other dress I loved.  God Bless

    Have Fun!!!!

oh, and  by the way, I wore a 26 dress, and have a size D chest...and I still had some room in that area!  Like once it went around my belly, it barly touched my body on top!  I am sure all the popping you will do will be on the honeymoon!  The hardest part is simply trusting that they will fit, when you cannot try it on.  Trust me, I know!  Good luck, and blessings!
