sizes

I tried on my first wedding gowns last night, and was shocked. I couldn't zip up a size 12. I wear a 5 in jeans(jrs) and an xs or small in tops(misses). What the hell? I don't wear my clothes tight at all, so I just don't get the size gap. This happen to anyone else?

Re: sizes

  • Wedding gowns run small! I usually wear a 2 or 4 and I had to try on an 8. The one I bought was a 6, but still it was bigger than I thought. Don't let it throw you off.
  • How strange... I wear a 4 normally and ended up ordering a 6... though the other size 4s I tried on fit fine.

  • I fit into a sample six 6 fine but it was a just little tight because of the corset and the consultants said it's easier to take the gown in than let it out so they advised I get an 8.  It depends on the style and material of the dress also.

Every designer has their own sizing chart. Whenever you end up buying your gown they will pull the particular designer sizing chart so they can measure you and order the correct size to that designer. So, some run big, some run normal, some run small etc. Either way, don't be discouraged. I know it's tempting to ask the size, but I tried not to look. The last thing you want is a number on the tag tainting your thoughts of how gorgeous you look in "the one".
Good luck finding your dress, I'm sure you look fabulous, regardless of the size.
  • I agree with PP 100%.  Some designers I had to go up 2 sizes or so, some I fit in my normal size and a couple I fit in a smaller size (than my street size).  It is just a number, don't let it get to you.

  • You would think that Bridal designers would be kind enough to make the dresses BIGGER than the street number to make us feel SECURE.. but no, instead they provoke posts like this one..jerks.
