passport name change?

So it doesn't cost anything to get a new passport after a name change? Do you have to turn it in? More importantly....do they keep it? I don't want to give it up....I have stamps from all over the world.

If you got a new passport in the last year you can change your name for free.  If your passport is older than a year you will have to pay for a new one.

The price went up last year I think it's $110 to renew now. I had to renew last Feb and now I need a new one sucks.  Given my living situation I couldn't let it lapse and I don't want to live/ travel under my maiden name for 9 years, my passport is my main ID, I can't change my name without changing my passport.

When you change your name you send in your passport, registered mail with your marriage cert, you can send in the one you got the day of your wedding btw, they will send it back to you with holes in it and you will get a new one with your new name.

There are people like me who HAVE to have their old passports back b/c it has visas in it for the country in which they live.  I will have to carry both passports after I change my name until I receive my British passport next summer.
