AW: Change of plans

A few months ago we booked our honeymoon (12 days at a beautiful resort in Mexico) and then we cancelled that trip last week and booked a new one this week. I am SOOOOOO incredibly excited to announce that we're going on my DREAM TRIP for our HM: South Africa! We leave 2 days after the wedding and first we'll be spending 4 nights in Cape Town.

On (full) Day 1, we'll have a full-day tour of the whole area including a boat ride out to Seal Island, Chapman's Drive (a road where there's a 200m drop on one side and a 200m rise on the other), Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, and going to see penguins! I had no idea there were penguins in Africa, by the way.

On day 2, we're going to hang out with some sharks. I will be in that cage and will likely shlt my pants or have a heart attack. Maybe both. But I bet it'll be awesome.

On day 3, we're going to a cheetah outreach where we can pet an adult cheetah and baby cheetahs! I can't even believe this is happening.

The next day we fly to Johannesburg and then to Hoedspruit for the safari leg of our trip. This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.

We're staying here:

It's a "luxury tent" and it's on stilts up in the air! I'm going to get in that bathtub and look out at the animals while I'm naked.

We'll stay there for 3 nights and go on a total of 6 game drives/walks. I can't wait to see the lions. I think I'll probably cry when I do.

So, that's it. There is no point to this post other than I'm a ridiculously excited AW :)

LMAO yes that is one of their "names" since they sound like a jackass.  They're called African Penguins at my local aquarium and they're freaking adorable.  So are sharks.

  • Hahahaa - my first thought when I finished reading your trip plans was "HOLY SH!T!". And then I scrolled down and saw that that was the first comment. Perfect.

Anyways - this trip sounds SO FREAKIN AMAZING. I think you guys made the right call, because I can't even imagine a cooler honeymoon than this one. Wow. I think it goes without saying, but you need to take TONS of pictures, and probably create a blog for them, or something.

    Congrats!

  • That's going to be amazing.  I'm jealous.
  • Wow - that sounds incredible. Suuuuper jealous!
  • Yay!  This sounds like so much fun :)  But yea, there are a LOT of sharks there.  I mean, I've seen shark week :)

Don't worry, the cage will be fine, just don't stick your hand out with a dead fish in it.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • Yup, officially jealous!

  • I don't think I've ever been so excited in my life!

I will take ALL of the pictures :)

  • RDR, congratulations on the new honeymoon spot! I'm doing a solo version of that itinerary, but minus cheetah petting (HOW DID I MISS THAT?) and plus a few nights in the winelands in Jan 2013. If there are any non-spoilery, good on the ground tips I come across, I would be happy to share them with you when I get back.
