Blusher??

Hi... so I have already purchased my gown, veil and blusher however now that I am considering how to do my hair etc I keep wondering how the whole blusher thing works.  I have seen some videos where the bride's father pulls it back when he goes to kiss her and then it stays back the whole ceremony and then other videos where the bride's father pulls it up to kiss her then puts it back down.  I guess I am just wondering how it is supposed to be and if the two different ways mean anything different? The more I think about it the more I want my dad to pull it back because I don't want all of the pictures to be of me with a veil over my face but I guess it really doesn't matter.  So what do you suggest or what did you do?

Re: Blusher??

  • I wore mine down for the entire ceremony, until our first kiss, due to the symbolism to us as Christians.  (Representing the veil that was torn at Christ's death, ending the separation between God and man, as the marriage ceremony ends the physical separation between man and woman).

You can do it either way, though.  I thought our pictures were fine, I didn't feel claustrophobic, and my vision wasn't compromised at all.

We didn't do a unity candle, but my parents did at their wedding, and my mom said she had to make sure she held her blusher back when they did that.
  • I have a blusher and, while I haven't gotten married yet, I'm going to have my dad lift it back over my head and kiss me and leave it back. I don't really have a reason, other than that's what I like. But, really, you can do either. Like PP, you can leave it down if you want. I haven't heard of anyone who thought their pictures looked bad or anything when they left it down.
  • I will be leaving mine down for my father to lift, and keep it back for the ceremony.  I guess to me it feels like once my dad lifts it, I will have gone from his little girl to a married woman.  But that is just my thought process and how I feel about it.
  • It all depends on a couple of factors. The one nobody has brought up yet: does it tickle your nose? I know of a person who flipped it up mid-ceremony because it was bugging her nose.

  • Sydney91's post is a very valid point.  I am wearing my Mom's veil to honour her being there in spirit but the blusher does tickle my nose and with the way my allergies are most days, I don't figure it's a good idea for me to aggravate the situation further :)
I plan on not even putting the blusher forward and will have it back off my face the entire time.  As a result, my hair will be a half updo or completely down.
