St. Simons or Jekyll Island

After debating, I believe that the FI and I have decided we'd like to go to St. Simons or Jekyll, I haven't been since I was little and he has never been.

What are some good places to stay that are affordable?

Re: St. Simons or Jekyll Island

  • Everything on St. Simons has gotten very expensive over the years, I'm not sure about Jekyll but I have family on St. Simons and we visit every year and you'll be amazed at how commercialized it has become. What kind of place are you looking for, what's your budget? I can ask my family.
  • Wow really? Our budget is around 2,000 maybe 3.

  • I was just at a destination wedding on Jekyll Island. It was absolutly adorable..however, depending on what time of the year you are planning on going, the sand bugs can be horrible....basically all summer and they are all over the island. The Jekyll Island Club is breathtaking and the island is not commercialized at all! But like I said..the bugs were too much for me. They were not bad at all until the wind stopped blowing, so i guess it just depends on what your up to!
  • Sand Bugs? LOL I think that would be too much for me!

  • so sorry it took me so long to get back here.. I'm finishing up nursing school and crazy busy. Check out the King and Prince at SSI, family is unsure on price range but nice. also suggested Village Inn and Pub (less familiar with it, but have heard good things).
I've been to SSI at least once if not more every year and it's a fun place, but definitely has gotten more commercialized and less natural as cumberland island is for example. I've never encountered sand fleas there, however the beach isn't wonderful so we usually walk it rather than lie in one spot maybe that's why. Good luck!
