Standing Guests

Is it really so tacky to have some of my guests standing during the ceremony? My venue calls for it but after reading a "worst weddings" thread, I am mortified to have it! Someone please shed some light on this! Thank you!

I'd say... if your ceremony is only 15 minutes long, it's no big deal. If your ceremony is going to be 30, 45 min or 1 hr, I'd say yes.

Yes. First, what if someone has a medical issue and is unable to stand for too long. Second, if there will be any kids there, it will be extremely difficult to try to keep the kids still while the ceremony is taking place. Atleast if you are sitting, they are more prone to behave.
I would try to do your best to have some type of seating. Where are you getting married, if you don't mind me asking?

I've not seen this idea ever pan out. There are so many factors than can play into this not being successful, like duration of ceremony, running late, antsy guests, medical conditions, etc. It's just easier on everyone to sit.

Just to clarify my earlier post... I noticed that you asked if it was ok for 'some' (not all) of your guests to stand. I presume that means you will have some seating available for the elderly or those with medical conditions, and not all of the guests would be standing, correct?

I have never heard of this. Why isn't there enough seating?

About 3/4 of the guests would be seated. I do not know why this is how this venue does things and I did not realize it until after I had booked. the elderly and handicapped would defiantely be seated, and there will not be children attending, other than my own, whom will be standing with me. I asked the woman who is in charge of the venue and of course she said it is fine and has never received a complaint about this, but I find it hard to believe. I have been to a wedding where I had to stand, and really it wasn't a big deal, but I don't want to inconvenience my guests!

I think is sounds fine, it sounds no different than someone booking a chapel/church and inviting more guests than it can accomadate. In that case there will be a handful of people standing up in the back but they have no one to blame but themselves for getting there too late..

you could alwas rent some nice chairs/lounge furniture for additional seating.

I agree. Standing through like 15, 20 minutes is not a big deal. Don't make it too long

To put it in prespective, your guests will stand through your entire cocktail hour
