June 2012 Weddings

Oops, sunburned!

Went swimming with FI and my fam today, thinking I had enough base color to ward off a sunburn.  Wrongo!  Now, I'm lotioning, aloeing, and baking sodaing my poor, tortured skin.

Thank God it's still 2 weeks to the wedding and a great lesson learned for being super careful between now and the wedding.

Re: Oops, sunburned!

  • My Fiancee got totally fried about 4 days ago.  They put him in the wrong tanning bed for 15 minutes!  Thankfully he is almost healed.

  • I just thought about this. I am going to an amusement park for my bach get together. We are going wednesday and we are getting married on Saturday. I'm literally gonna be hitting the sunblock like crazy that day, cuz its supposed to be 95 and sunny!

  • I got burn pretty bad about a week ago. I've been putting cocoa butter on it and then some gel moistiurizer on my face ( hoping for not breakouts!). I'm only peeling an little and i should be all better by next Saturday! ( fingers crossed!)

  • Can I ask about the "baking sodaing"?  I've never heard of using that on a sunburn before.  My sister gets burns really bad, so I'm just curious what you do and if it really helps.

Luckily you have 2 weeks to recover, so hopefully that's enough for your skin!

  • I was out in the sun a little bit today and I am super itchy like I'm going to have a burn later on. I'm slathered in aloe right now praying I don't get it... my burns seems to last ages :(

Oh!  It really helps.. You can do it one of two ways..

Take a (lukewarm or cool) bath with 1/2 cup of baking soda added and just soak!  As cool of water as you can stand comfortably is best.. but staying in it for longer is more important than the temperature.  I took 2 30 minute baking soda baths.  It's soothing but it also helps your skin heal, which is the real reason I do it.

The other way would be to make compresses with baking soda and cool water and apply it gentle to the affected area.  This is what I do on my face because aloe and lotions on my face make me break out, so I use the baking soda approach.

Interesting... I've never heard of that method before.
