DJ Services

I am looking into a DJ Company - Music of our Times http://www.barriedj.com/, that has services for all across Ontario, but so it seems, most commonly in Barrie and is also referred to as Barrie DJ. Has anyone heard or experienced anything positive or negative about this company?
I'm so nervous about booking any vendors - especially since I'm trying to save money because of a tight budget. Who knows if they're cheaper because they're horrible or because they're just not as fancy and over priced?!
I would hate to have a horrible DJ when dancing will (hopefully) be such a big part of the night. I know if you want quality, you have to prioritize and spend the money, but it seems everything is a 'priority.' Something has to give. hehe Sorry about that mini rant.
Any thoughts or advice would be so appreciated!! I feel lost and very nervous.

Thanks

well, considering that Barrie is a much smaller market thatn Toronto, they might just be priced less because they're not in the city. When my sister got married, she spent only 500 bucks on a DJ from Peterborough, and he was fantastic. Maybe if you give him a call and ask him to give you a brief rundown of what a typical night he DJ's sounds like.

One wedding I was at, they had a "request box", so people could write down the name of a song they wanted, and the DJ would try to play it. If you're worried about what people will think, I think that this request box might be a good idea as well, because in that case, everyone gets a little input and is happy!

    hope that helps!

I haven't heard of this company so I can't help you there.  But....

Our DJ offered to have us attend one of his events, whether a wedding or corporate event prior to booking with him.  I was also feeling lost and nervous because I didn't know the company and didn't have references.  Maybe you can ask to attend one of the companies events so you'll have a better idea of what to expect.  I also asked our DJ if he could contact a couple of his recent couples that had him DJ their wedding as references.  We actually spoke with them on the phone to get their feed back.
Some things to consider questioning:  can you provide a song list, do you take requests, how much/what type of interaction do you offer with the guests, is there a written contract, who will the actual DJ be, are they licensed, etc.
    Hope this helps

We have a jazz quartet, but I have heard that no matter how good your dj is always bring your first dance song and anything else that is important to you as a just in case!

I would imagine that they're cheaper because they're based in Barrie.  When FI and I were researching DJs, most of the DJs we interviewed were from Toronto but one was from Windsor, where we're living right now.  He was less than half what some of the other guys were charging, including travel costs, and a big part of that was where he was based.
