October Honeymoon Suggestions

I'm set on going on our honeymoon right after the wedding which is in October, I want to be on the beach but I don't want to be worried about hurricanes.  Any suggestions for hurricane free beaches in October?  We're thinking Mexico but any other suggestions are appreciated!

Re: October Honeymoon Suggestions

  • There is no 100% guarantee that any beach in the Caribbean, Mexico, or Hawaii will be hurricane free. However, the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao are outside of the hurricane belt, so the chances of being affected are lower. That being said, hurricanes occur at random and typically affects an island for 3 days or so at any time between June and November. For the very off chance that a hurricane will affect the island that you are on during the exact time that you are there, I just recommend obtaining trip insurance to cover that really off chance that you may have to cancel. Also keep in mind that when hurricanes are not affected an island, the weather is usually lovely.

  • What she said ^^

Mexico is great. When we went it was September and it was gorgeous. Absolutely amazing.

  • Why not try a Pacific/west coast honeymoon? The Pacific sees far fewer hurricanes. You could try Cabo if you wanted Mexico, Hawaii, or even Southern California. Catalina and Coronado Islands are great. San Diego and Orange County beaches are awesome too!

  • Agreed - Aruba is out of the hurricane belt, but in October, despite the hurricane season, the odds are slim there will be one when you go.

Regardless, I always suggest to people who travel to the Caribbean/Eastern Mexico in hurricane season to purchase travel insurance. Soo worth the peace of mind to know that you would be reimbursed if your flights were cancelled/hotel evacuated/trip interrupted due to weather! To give you an idea, for two 25 year olds on a honeymoon worth ~$5,000, i'd say trip insurance would be around $300. Definitely worth the benefit in my mind.

Hope that helps - let me know if you have any more questions!
  • Aruba is NOT out of the burricane belt.  NOAH the weather people moved the lines several years ago & the ABCs are now in.

You could try Hawaii, Tahiti or the Canary islands off the coast of Africa.

First of all, it's NOAA. Secondly, being outside of the hurricane belt does not mean that an island will not get hit by hurricanes. It just means that it's much less likely. Also, Hawaii is in the NOAA Northeast Pacific Basin for storms. It's on the edge, and has smaller risk, but still in the basin. Tahiti's cyclone season begins in late October, so still not completely safe. However, a bit more safe than the bulk of the Caribbean. It's also at least twice the cost.
