Silk Flowers

I saw a vendor at a bridal show this weekend that does silk flowers for weddings. They looked sooo real! We closely investigated them, and still had a hard time telling if they were fake or not. I never ever thought I would consider fake flowers for my wedding, but I wanted to see what you girls thought. I'm still planning to do real flowers for my bouquets, but I'm really tempted to do the silk flowers for the centerpieces!! Has anyone ever seen or used these before?

I haven't seen them used but I think it sounds like a good idea. You get the look without the extra cost - plus you wouldn't have the scents from the flowers interfering with the food.

I also have not seen them used- but I know my cousins in Ohio is doing this. Her sisters have assured me the centerpieces look amazing- and I'm sure they do! I think it's up to you. It would also be a nice way for you to enjoy them after the wedding since they will not die.

I can go either way on this one... some silks look really fake... of course those are the cheap ones.  The ones that look ultra real aren't inexpensive.  If you're looking to save on cost, when I was pricing things, the really high end silks were just as expensive as real flowers, if not more.  I think it really depends on why you want them.  If it's for allergy reasons or for the sentimentality of being able to keep them after the wedding, then I say go for it.  If it's for cost cutting, I'd say crunch the numbers and see if it's really going to save you money.  Are you planning on giving away your centerpieces?  If so, do you think people are going to want to keep the silks for forever? or will they just end up throwing them away or giving it to goodwill because it's not their style?  Or are you planning on keeping 10-15 centerpieces for yourselves after the wedding?  I'd really weigh the reasons why you're considering it and see if it really ends up being the best choice for you.

For me, the cost didn't make it an outright winner, AND I just love fresh flowers.

All great points! Thanks!  We're looking to save on costs,  but I didn't think about the possibility that they may be just as expensive as real flowers.

My photog did silk for her destination wedding and RAVED about them.  Def check out price and the lead time to be able to get them. I checked on it for myself, but the calla lillies I want looked like rubber - the roses and everything looked gorgeous.

Agree with PP. The high end silk flowers can be more or just as expensive as real ones but if you are looking for flowers that are out of season then that might be your best bet.

Silk flowers are so awesome. They can be less expensive and last longer. In Manchester downtown there's a GREAT florist Designed to Order. They have a website too that does silk. Cool thing, you can get them done ahead of the wedding...
