Do bridesmaids have to get a plus one?

I'm not opposed to giving my bmaids plus ones, but none of them are in relationships, serious or otherwise, except for one. Her boyfriend is my brother... so he'll be there anyway, obviously. I can't decide if it would be worse to have 3 strangers at my wedding or make my bridesmaids upset?

Most of our bridal party was single, but we gave them all plus 1's because they were doing so much for us that day, that we thought it was only fair.

We gave all of our attendants a plus one (even though we were having a very small wedding) because they were doing so much for us. We wanted to be sure they were happy and had a good time.

I would extend the option to your BMs. They may not choose to bring a date, but it's better to have "3 strangers" at your wedding than 3 bridesmaids who wanted to bring a date, but didn't have the option.

From what I can tell, there's a big difference of opinion on this. Some people believe dates for the WP are absolutely required. Personally, I am giving everyone a "plus one" and I don't really get the whole thing about not having strangers there since there will be a ton of people who are strangers to me because they're on FI's side.

We only gave them a "plus 1" if we knew they were dating someone for sure or asked them ahead of time if there was someone they wanted to bring.

I didn't give my BMs a +1. In fact, I forbade them from dating. Because I'm a 'zilla like that. Here's a pic of the 3 of us:

I think it's nice to give them a +1 so they have the option. If they're not dating anybody, they very well may not bring someone because they'll already be busy being a BM. I was a BM while I was single and I figured that leaving a date alone with total strangers would have been awkward. It was just easier to go without one. But, this wedding also had very little celebration at the reception -- little music, no dancing, no bar -- so I didn't feel shorted by not having a dance partner. At a more upbeat reception, I probably would have wished I had brought a date.

I am of the opinion that the wedding party always gets a +1 and, as I've stated on a few posts recently, I don't care if they bring paid escorts that none of us, including them, will ever see again. They are doing quite a bit for us, and standing up beside us, the least I can do is allow them to bring a guest of their choosing to spend the rest of the evening with.

I'm not sure I agree on just bringing any old +1 if the bridesmaid isn't in a relationship. I just imagine the bridesmaid, who presumably is one of your best friends and is close with a lot of people attending the wedding, would feel like she had to babysit her date, who didn't know anyone. But I guess it would be up to the bridesmaid on who she wanted to bring.

I think the best thing to do is just ask them if there is someone they want to bring, and if so, invite him.

our single WP members were offered a date, but nobody brought one unless they were married/in serious relationships.

I don't like being a WP date unless I know a lot of people there. it's boring.

I gave mine plus ones, but it is your decision. I think if you have the space, why not? However, if you are running out of space, it is not necessary.
