What time to have dinner

I was wondering if a 7:30 dinner is too late? it would be a sit down dinner style. and it will last till 12am.

I assume you mean the reception will last until midnight, not the dinner? I hope that's the case - not sure I could eat for 5 hours! ;-)

But no, I don't think 7:30 is too late. What time is your ceremony? If you're having a cocktail hour between ceremony and reception, you might want to do some appetizers at the cocktail hour, but 7:30 is a reasonable time for dinner.

Our reception didn't start until 8:30 so you're more than fine! Our ceremony was at 7:00, cocktail hour was 7:30-8:30, so our reception wasn't until 8:30 and was until 12:30. We had plenty of food at cocktail hour though to help fill the tummies of those who were hungry since it was past the usual dinnertime. We had a cheese and fruit display and 8 butler passed hors d'ouevres. If you're concerned that the reception is starting later on, just make sure and have enough food at cocktail hour. HTH!

I think this is a regional thing honestly. Ask your family and friends. Where I'm from, people commonly start to eat dinner between 5 and 6:30. However, DH and I went to NYC last summer and the restaurants in the non-touristy areas were dead when we would arrive at 6:00. Obviously it's common in that area to eat much later.

I also think it is much more acceptable to have a later dinner if you are having a cocktail hour with appetizers.

i think that sounds fine. what time is the ceremony? if you'll be a having a space between the ceremony and dinner you should do a cocktail hour to serve snacks in between.
