Intro/veil help (kinda long?)

Hi ladies! I have to admit, I've been a lurker for quite some time and I have to tell you all how much I love and appreciate this board! It has helped me with all of my worries, questions,  and well...everything about getting married again. So, thank you!!

Now, I am looking for some accessory advice and I think that you ladies are the best to give it to me!  My wedding is only 2 months away and my dress won't be in until 2 weeks before the big day (YIKES!).  My dress is the Karena Royale by Maggie. Here's the picture, but I am having the bow and removed so it will only hav the sash.

What type of veil would you wear with it if any at all????

I am very much struggling with the veil decision, including no veil at all, even though I think I really want to wear one. I tried on a couple of lace veils and they are just too much. The wedding is VERY small  (only 16 guests!) at an historic hotel in the mountains followed by dinner.  The only shop I found to try the dress on (and it wasn't even the exact dress) did not have a good selection of veils and is far away from where I live.  I will most likely end up buying a veil online.  I'm petite, only 5'2" and am wearing my hair down with one side pinned up with a rose.

Thanks so much!

a birdcage veil would look nice with this dress, and is not too over the top for the venue.  I'll add some links- but on all of them, I would substitute the rose you mentioned for the "stuff"  on the veil in the picture.

like this one the best so far - less out there:

I think this is very different:

depending on your style, this may work or may not:

Oh - and by the way, wearing nothing but the flower (in your hair)  would be fine as well.  I didn't wear a veil, and just bought some hair jewels at Claire's (yes, I am actually 12), and was happy with that.  ~Donna

I agree with PP that is exactly what I thought when looking at the dress.

Thanks for the compliments about this board. Welcome.

I am also 5'2", and if I were not having a big-ish wedding, would not be wearing a veil. However, I am changing into a reception dress so I can really have fun, and will be wearing a bridal type headband for that.

Your dress is gorgeous! I think it makes it's own statement. I like the link above to the jeweled "hair vine", the flowers in the links, with no veil at all. I'd find the birdcage veil too hard to wear for long, and would just prefer to have something elegant on my head that says "bride" without a veil.

I looked at the dress on the website, and the lace is lovely, and appears to have some sequins or sparkle? Are you keeping the brooch? You might also try to find a headband with similar lace or a lace flower to draw that together. You didn't say what jewelry you were wearing, so whatever you put on the top or side of your head shouldn't compete (we short girls need to watch the bling!)

    Found this website: http://www.beforetheidos.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CARB-HP8205

You didn't say if the flower you are wearing is real or silk. If you are going with a real flower, you could check around with florists and see if you can get a large gardenia (I love the strong sweet smell, others find it annoying) or a large cabbage rose instead. You could just wear that.

Good luck. It sounds like you have a fabulous wedding planned, and will look lovely in that dress.

I'm 5'4" and wearing a very similar dress. I'm also wearing my hair down (FI insists).  I've tried on all different headpieces and veils and MOH and I's favorite 2 choices were:

    1. Hair flower with crystals in the center to one side

    2. Birdcage veil

    (or both)

Thank you so much, ladies! I really apprecaite all of your helpful advice.

@Sue - your wedding sounds lovely as well and it sounds like it's going to be really fun since you are changing and all! Two dresses! Lucky!! I am originally from Detroit area as well, so I know how Michiganders like to have fun! :) The dress is pretty sparkly and think I may keep the broach. It's so pretty that I hate to lose it, but I don't want it to be too much. The dress is so much as it is.  We have to be careful not to be overpowered by the dress, right? Though, while I am only 5'2", my FI is 6'8" - so needless to say, I'll be wearing 4" heels! Good luck with that! I'm practicing already.

I don't know why it's harder for me this time around when it comes to dress, accessories, ect. I guess because the veil was a no-brainer when I was 25 the first time around. This wedding is def. all about me and my honey. First time, it was all about what mom and dad didn't have when they got married. I know I'm not the only one on this board who knows what that feels like!

I really love the look of birdcage veils, but they are just so not me. With my luck, I'd trip down the stairs and the shoes already significantly increase my chances of that. I'm hippy chic who lives in the mountains. My family was just excited to hear that we wouldn't be getting married in hiking boots or snowshoes in the middle of the forrest (NOT that there's one darn thing wrong with that!). haha You should have seen the look on my mom's face when I showed her a picture of the dress, she thought I was joking! ;)

I am also trying to keep expenses low; thus the single rose. I was planning on a single real sahara rose to match my boquet. I think the color of the flower would go nice with the red hair.  This may sound funny, but I have a really small head and have to be careful what I wear on it. For other accessories, I was going to find some nice kinda bling drop earings and a bracelet - similar to the model in the picture. ???

You have no idea how much this board has helped me through this whole process. Thanks again so very much! You ladies ROCK!!

Hey andyjill Congrats and welcome to the board!

Your gown  ROCKS!!!! I love it. I tried on this gown and it is truely beautiful in person. I also went with a lace gown: Maggie Sottoro's Clarissa. I posted pics in a recent post if you want to see. I am only 5'1'' and wearing 3 inch heals so I am vertically challenged as well.

I agree wtih pp's on the birdcage or hairpiece, ETSY sellers have lots to choose from, here's a link:http://www.etsy.com/shop/brendasbridalveils
I think the etsy sellers have great pricing too.

I am having my ceremony and reception at an estate mansion, so the lace gown and birdcage really goes with my venue. I think this will go nicely with your venue in the mountains, sounds beautiful.

I wish you  luck, keep us posted.

Like I said- if you want to skip the veil altogether- its fine.  A hippy chick with a flower in her hair is a great look.  ~Donna

I second that! I'm sure it will look great no matter what you do.

Thanks again everyone. I think I am going to go with this pretty hair comb for a little something extra in my hair and keep the flower. Put the $ I would have spent on a veil towards our honeymoon! :)

Oh thanks for this thread! I posted something similar - should have read the board more carefully first I see - so I am enjoying looking at all the links!
