Videographer??? What did/are you doing?

Hi ladies,
FI and I are just starting to look at videographers and I am torn...they are sooo expensive!!! Half of me wants to splurge because I've heard that the day is a whirlwind and that having the video is a great memory and way to see everything that was a blur. The other half of me can't justify spending $1200-$2000 (what most I've seen cost) for a video we will only watch on special occasionsa few times....Did you have a videographer? If so, was it worth it??

I've read posts from girls who found a videographer who was just starting out and only paid $600-8800 for basically the same product. Does anyone have ideas for where I can find one like this? Thanks!

i'm having a friend record the ceremony and the important parts of the reception. he's actually the husband of one of my bridesmaids and he's not going to know any other people so he said he wouldn't mind having something else to do. i didn't have money in my budget for a videographer so this was the best i could do. even if I did, not sure if i would spend the money because i really dislike seeing myself on camera!

I didn't have a videographer for my wedding. I'm not against them and sure, there has been an occasion when I wished I could watch it on video. However, I'm also glad I didn't because it's a lot of money and I wouldn't watch it enough to justify having spent the money. I don't regret not having one and I actually remember all the details from the wedding day. Looking back on it, it went by quickly, but in the moment, it didn't seem like a whirlwind type of day. I loved my wedding day more than anything, and I do enjoy watching videos that friends took on their cameras - but I don't know when I'd have time to sit and watch a professional video for a couple hours.

Do what feels right to you. You need to figure out what's important to you. For me, I wanted great pictures and was willing to spend a little more to get them. For others it's the cake... and some the videographer. Also, like pp said, if you can't find someone in your budget, find someone willing to do it for you (just keep in mind that you most likely won't be mic'd in that situation, so you won't be able to hear vows very easily).

I'm using Life's Moments. They are $700 for the whole day. lifesmomentsonline.com They've been around for a bit & the guy who does it is well, very into it. His samples looked good as well.

I'm getting one and it will be $1275 for the whole day. It is a large expense but I've read a lot of places that brides' biggest regrets is not having a videographer. Also my sister had one and it turned out amazing. We watch almost every time we get together for holidays. It's also something nice to show people that can't attend the ceremony/reception too.

I used Mark Lowrie. I paid 1200 but IMO it was my best spent money. You can also talk to a teacher at local college that has these classes and maybe he could get students to do it for extra credit or practice and it would be cheap and they would take extra time editing it.

You should into Babulski Productions. Steve does a really great job, and his rates are very reasonable. Everyone I know who has used him spent between $800-$1600...and the best part was that they had their DVD soon after returning from their honeymoon!!

I'm getting a couple of flip cameras and handing them to a few trusted friends and family. I figure they can be handed around to a selected few and if they fill up we can have a lap-top available for them to dump the videos. They're less expensive than a videographer.

I am using lifes moments as well, I loved the people who do it, they are so nice, and they give you a lot for your money, the demos they showed were of great quality. And you cant beat the price.
