Wax Seal Question!

Hello!

I bought some things at Michaels to do a wax seal on my invites, but I am not sure if it is supposed to go on the inner or outer envelope? I kind of thought it went on the inner envelope, but the lady at the post office just told me it goes on the outer, to show that it has not been tampered with. She advised to leave the inner envelope open with no seal or seal, which makes sense since my inner envelopes don't have a sealant on them. Is this all correct? Wax on the outer and nada on the inner?

Also has anyone does these seals? Are they overly difficult/messy/time-consuming?

if you're going to do them, i would put them on the inner envelope. when going through the machines at the post office there's a pretty good chance that the wax will crack or completely break. if it's on the inner envelope it has a better chance of surviving.

i did a lot of research on this as we really wanted to do this as well.

They go on the outer envelope, the postal worker was correct. Go on youtube and search for "wax seal". It's not too messy :-) It looked like fun to me, but I am crafty and always look for something new to try.

Nowadays, the was is much more flexiable, so, send those invitations with confidence, but to be 200% sure the wax does not come off, seal the outer envelope with clear round seal first, and then apply the wax.

I got an invite a couple years ago with a wax seal on the inner envelope. When I opened it a million pieces of cracked and broken off wax fell out of the envelope. It was good that it was the inner envelope and not the outer so that everything remained inside.

Two weeks ago I got an invite with what looks like the Michaels wax seal. It was also on the inner envelope and looked really cute and was intact. The only thing is that I'm sure the post office will charge you more since they will be non machineable.

Hmmm...I've used wax seals (like, myself melting the wax candle and stamping into it) on cards a zillions times, and never have gotten a complaint about them...but now I wonder if they even made it to their receivers! lol Yeah, inner does seem more careful...it might depend on what kind of sealer you're using. Different brands may hold together differently.

I used wax seals on my invitations, and no one has complained yet about them. That being said, we were charged more in postage for them because it makes the envelope a little bit bulkier, and it would catch when they put it through this tester slot thing... Also, we had all 60 invitations we sent out hand cancelled instead of put through a machine. We were not charged a dime for this service.

Thanks Ladies....after many not-so-cute attempts at this I decided to order personalized seals from magnetstreet instead! I worked so hard on my invitations, I just can't bear the though of missing them up at this point!! Thanks for the tips though!!!
