Can I have it all? (need to vent)

So I posted on the Mom & Maids board about how my mom is not even wanted to talking wedding (which isn't until Summer 2013) but my future mother-in-law is bombarding me with wedding stuff. People seemed to cling to one part: I'm graduating before my fiance (me- Spring 2012, him- Winter 2013) and I want to go to graduate school right after I graduate.

Reading the comments from people, I'm now TERRIFIED! I know grad school (I'm a psych major by the way) will be hard and time consuming. My fiance and I already have a long distance(ish) relationship because he went to school back home while I went to school 2 hours away. Because of working, we only see each other once every two weeks, so the distance thing (I want to go to school in Maryland, we live in Ohio) shouldn't be too big of a problem.

But can I have it all? Can I get my masters, have my wedding, and be happy?

I need help/advice...

Re: Can I have it all? (need to vent)

  • It is definitely not impossible, but realize that when you get frustrated, it is very easy to hang up the phone or yell at each other and fight a lot more, even when you may not necessarily be mad directly at each other. Long distance relationship/marriage along with grad school makes things complicated, I don't know if he is in grad school as well? That being said, it is very very rewarding to go through grad school and you need to make sure your future is set up so you can succeed to the fullest. The relationship will be be tested, but it will be worth it in the end for the long-term future. You will get through it, just stay strong and turn to friends and family during trying times.
