Alter a sheath gown/backless dress support

Hello bees!

I am trying to get some things clear before I order my potential wedding gown (Allure 8800), and I thought I could look to you all for some thoughts or suggestions.

I am 5"3, very petite everywhere except up top (32DD)
1. I was wondering if it is possible to alter a sheath gown to make it more fitted to the body... to accentuate what little curves I have.... I don't want it to look baggy or like I am a little girl trying on my mom's wedding gown! I want to look sexy and sophisticated:)

2. Since I am bigger on top (32dd), does anyone have experience with sewn in cups on a backless dress. I'm not sure what my options are as far as support.

Thanks!!!

  • First of all...we are NOT bees.

To answer your question, I would suggest talking to a seamstress to see what suggestions she might have.  I had a backless dress with cups sewn in and it worked out well for me, but I am smaller on top, so I don't know what kind of support it could offer for your cup size.  A good seamstress should be able to give you some good advice on what realistically can and can't be done.  Good luck, it's a really beautiful dress!

  • That is a gorgeous dress!

I sew, and to be honest, I'm not sure how to go about holding up your DD's in a backless dress. I know they make bras for backless dresses, that have the straps that cross below the waist..........you'd have to look into that. I believe it's also possible to get that type of bra with clear straps, so they don't show through the sheer lace on the straps of the dress...........

As far as making it more skin-tight, I think you might lose the feel of the dress. It's not a mermaid, but it appears to be fairly tight to the body already.
  • Thanks so much ladies!! Sorry about the bees reference... I'm new to the wedding blog scene and I guess going back and forth, I got confused:)

Hopefully I can talk to a seamstress before I order it!

    Thanks again:)
