Limited Parking

So what if your desired venue only has about just enough spots available in their parking lot to accomodate your guests, and it's on an "as available" basis? Are guests expected to find parking or is there some way to work out paying for their parking if the lot provided is full? The reception we're hoping to have is in a downtown area.

I really need to go to bed. So many questions...

     What does your venue usually do when their spots are filled up?
    Is there a nearby lot you can prepay for?

    Is it safe to park on the street in the area surrounding your venue? If so, don't worry about it.

    If not, just call the venue and ask what the policy is.

    If you have a wedding website, post that there is limited free parking and additional parking available.

    If there is legal street parking around the venue, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If there's not street parking in the area, I'd be more concerned and make greater efforts to, at the least, inform the guests.  You're not required to cover paid parking for those who don't get the spots available, but it would be a really classy touch if you did.

    Definitely mention on the wedding website that there is limited free parking on a first-come first-served basis.  I would likely include information to that effect on your reception insert or in a separate insert with the formal invitations.  By word of mouth I would encourage guests to carpool.

    Is there a way to offer a shuttle? Some of the venues I looked at which had limited parking had worked out deals with local hotels to provide a shuttle service.

    Definitely check into the hotels in the area to see if they offer a shuttle service. My little sister's venue has parking but it's pretty limited. We found out through the town's Convention and Visitor's Bureau which hotels in the area offer shuttles to wedding venues. They were extremely helpful!

    Another option if it fits within your budget is to just pay for a bus/shuttle from the hotel your guests are staying at to the venue. My cousin had to do this for her wedding because there literally was not parking at the event. I thought it was a great gesture though because it saved guests from having to worry about drinking and driving, coordinating carpools, etc.

    Can you hire a valet parking attendant? That way cars can get blocked in and save space to accomodate all cars.
